What's so bad about a little girl wearing a peace sign?

Can anyone answer the sweet lady's innocent little question?

I can’t tell what the flag is, please let me know. Our next door neighbors are Japanese and fly a Japanese flag but at least they fly it in the back yard.

Nothing wrong with it. Of course my grandkids wear t-shirts that say peace through strength with pictures of the peace symbol and an M4. But hey it’s a free country.

Malia’s peace-sign T mixes politics with fashion
Malia Obama is getting into the political arena without uttering a word. Instead, she’s letting fashion do her talking.

Just a couple of days after President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev agreed to cut back on nuclear weapons, the 11-year-old was spotted in Italy wearing two T-shirts that blared anti-nuclear sentiments.

As the president readied for the G-8 talks there, Malia turned out in a gray T-shirt bearing the famous Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament’s peace sign logo during a visit to the Coliseum in Rome.

(For the record, mom Michelle Obama went more neutral in a white cotton silk dress by Narciso Rodriguez with a turquoise star-burst brooch).

Later, Malia changed into a mottled white and gray top bearing the peace sign.

Malia is a quick study. Likely she’s learned a lesson or two from mom, often celebrated for her high style.

She knows that fashion can send strong messages. And these T-shirts definitely had clout.

As has been said, the “Peace” sign was the 60’s radicals Swastika. It is the symbol of those who spit on Viet Nam vets. I won’t touch one.

The media as usual made a huge deal out of nothing. Go to any store anywhere in this country. Hippie-Chic is in. From the gauze shirts, halter tops, etc. Peace signs have been the thing for the past 2 years or so, jewelry, shirts, bags, etc. Does anyone under the age of 18 really wear it because they are making a political statement? No, it is just a fad and the current style.

That doesn’t make it ok. As has been pointed out, it is the swastika of the radical left.

Obama will be like the french..he will surrender before the first shot is fired in a war!!!

You got that right. I can't believe he has been such an apologizer during his first five months. He scares me to no end, and then letting his daughter show up with the footprint of the American chicken in another country.

Being in the military, he is the worst thing we have seen since jimmah cattah. I overheard several soldiers (blacks, Hispanic and whites) this weekend, and they all hate his guts. I never thought I would hear the things they said, but I stopped them when the blacks started calling him the "n" word. The military does NOT support him.

While everyone was all freaked out over the t-shirt, I am more interested in who the thug is that is in the photos. Is he a body guard or Secret Service? Cause if he is Secret Service, I guess the dress code has changed drastically.

Someone said it was her cousin and someone else said it’s Mom’s hairdresser. The answer is, we don’t know who he is.

Well Mama Michelle said she never felt pride in her country. I think there is an old German proverb that illustrates this.

What's wrong is that it portrays her as a intellectual/political lightweight, which reflects very badly on her very powerful father.

Satirist Tom Lehrer put it well:

We are the Folk Song Army.
Everyone of us cares.
We all hate poverty, war, and injustice,
Unlike the rest of you squares.
What this "little girl" does not realize:
Nobody truly is opposed to peace.
Everyone wants peace.
Problem is, everyone wants THEIR peace THEIR way and is willing to kill to get it.

Even that little girl would happily tell you how, in her own naive terminology, she wants to impose her own form of peace upon others under threat of police or military violence. She wants peace - so long as everyone does things her way.

This reflects on her father, the President of the USA. Rather than dressing and behaving and socializing as is fit a child of the ruling elite, his own daughter dresses like a common peon (cheap white shirt with cheesy logo), behaves poorly (large politically-charged logo expressing a naive and in-your-face attitude as described above), and socializes poorly (photos I've seen look like she's hanging out with low-class wannabe gangsters). If the POTUS can't even keep his own kid in line, how can he possibly be a serious player on the world stage?

I started thinking that myself. Who is he? Some kind of handler? He doesn't look 11 years old. Obamas. Are you monitoring who is influencing your daughter?

This really isn't about the Obama kids, or it shouldn't be anyway. The parents are the ones who are responsible for the clothing they wear, especially when they are parading around a foreign country on the taxpayers' dime.

RE: The "peace" symbol. "The above was taken from Symbols and Their Meaning. On a personal level, it stands to me to symbolize the hatred and animosity expressed toward both our military in the 60s and toward our country. It is a symbol expressing hatred of the US rather than pride in the greatest country on earth."

Thank you!

That's exactly what I remember from the '60s and have expressed it in my replies. Thanks again.

RE: "I associate the peace sign with the 60’s anti-establishment movement to destroy the American way of life."

That's exactly what I remember from the '60s.

Those Marxist-Alinsky hippie street rabble have taken over the Democratic Party and seem to dominate various aspects of our society; to wit, they seem to be "the Establishment."

That's (not too) funny -- the anti-establishment malcontents of the '60s are now "the Establishment" and they will tolerate no dissent! They are Marxist-Alinsky tyrants. It's what they do.
