Can anyone answer the sweet lady's innocent little question?
It’s antipatriotic and adulterous in nature. It also paints peaceful working people to the fringe, making pot smoking unstable and “peace wanked” downers rotted retards look good.
I grew up in the 60s and saw the peace sign as a frivolous pop symbol, not unlike the smiley face.
But to your point, when the daughter of a 60s radical is dressed as such, and her parents knowing full well that her photograph would be seen 'round the world, one can't help but realize that this was as much a signal being sent as anything.
Someone has to explain to me why Palin's daughter, kept out of the limelight is fair game for jokes about rape, but Obama's daughter, trotted out dressed in a political symbol, is somehow immune.
The thing about tyranny is that recognition grows like a cancer: more and more see it and realize that they, too, have a boot on their neck, and the grip of power (and legitimacy) loosens.
This kind of sums it up. Malia Obama's T-shirt does the talking at G8 summit in Italy.
Barack Obama's elder daughter wears top with peace symbol used as Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament logo on Rome visit.
Campaigning for Nuclear Disarmament at age 11?
gotcha....I thought you meant that SHE wagged her middle finger.
By the way, the peace sign is a symbol fashioned after a woman’s butt and vagina confluence at the center.
It also encourages long time lurkers to sign up and start posting.
I began assembling my facts as soon as the thread went up. He just got done a little bit before me.
I agree with you. There are some posts after mine which also explain the true meaning behind that shirt. Good points all.
One more thing, that shirt was not worn by just “some little girl.” It was worn by the daughter of the president. As such, any clothing she wears that has a message, carries the weight of a message from her parent. I had veto power over the clothes my children wore (when they were children). Her parents have the same authority of her. Therefore, that symbol was sent with the approval and agreement of her father, the President. That is what makes it unacceptable in this particular case.
Absolutely !
One must pick their battles, and this is not one of them. I don't care if the author of this article is most ridiculous left-wing person, but she's correct on this one.
I can only speak for myself.
Dear Ms Andrews, It's the "peace sign," stupid!
I grew up in the 1950s and I remember the 60's. The "peace sign" may be your sign but it ain't mine.
To wit, the "peace sign" was co-opted by 1960s Marxist-Alinsky hippie. "anti-war," pro-communist street rabble.
I ain't too fond of them Marxist-Alinsky types, who include IMO, Mon and Dad Obama.
Criticism of the Obama children should have been limited to explaining a little history about what the "peace sign" really means.
To wit, those very same 1960s Marxist-Alinsky hippie street rabble and their ideological issue (children) co-opted the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party to become IMO the "Rat Party."
That ain't name calling. The Sixties Marxist-Alinsky hippie street rabble really have taken over the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party. Under the hail of "neo-con" taunts many Democrats fled the Party.
I remember Henry "Scoop" Jackson, Hubert Humphrey, Harry Truman -- I knew the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party was a friend of America. The Rat Party is no Democratic Party.
Apologize to the world for that, Mr. President!
I am sleeve-laughing right now.
PS We celebrate Reformation Day - NOT halloween - in my family. The kids didn’t like it at first, but I think that now they’re grown they understand.
Funny how they would not question Muslim outrage if the t-shirt she was wearing had a cartoon of Mohammed on it.
That was what I remembered of it, too. I just call it "The Great American Chicken Track" around my grandkids, and they seem to avoid items with them--which is getting hard to do with all the leftist neohippie redux.
Maybe you should gently explain to her that it’s the symbol of those that literally spit on American soldiers returning from Viet Nam.
Remember that Amy Carter, the first first daughter lamenting over nuclear disarmament.......ended up getting thrown out of Brown University because she was creating havoc with Abby Hoffmann.
Look for Malia to have the same future. Hanging with aging hippies who promote free love and hate America.
She’s already got the hate America part down well thanks to her mommy and daddy.
The sign is not politically neutral, it offends me because it was the symbol of those that spat upon me and treated me with contempt while I was in uniform. I am offended by it as are millions of veterans. A President that is sensitive to veterans feelings would have not let his daughter wear it, especially in a foreign country. I don't let my 11 year old daughter wear anything that has that symbol on it. It is simply offensive.
Now, why is a Confederate Battle Flag offensive to blacks and yet many don't wear it because it is offensive to blacks? Oh, we have to respect their sensitivities...Well, the symbol Obama's offspring wore offended me...
Welcome to FR
She’s an 11 year-old girl. I think we can hold off on speculating about her future based on one fashion choice.
