From the accounts I have read, this appears to be shooting of civilians by Chinese troops for refusing to disperse. 156 dead and over 800 wounded. As a rule, I am against the military of any government shooting civilians.

With the rate the Han Chinese are growing there, this is already a lost cause u shouldn’t be getting worked up over (independence). Overall, there is like 1.2 billion Han chinese in china, and 8 million uighurs or so. You want to bet who will come up on top? Use your own money, but don’t make America throw money to these muslims who are on our terrorist list. They have lost, history has moved on, they live in a chinese world, the best they could do is learn to live in it.
I have written Tibet off too, it is OVER. I hope they get better minority treatment n so on. But independence? Forget it, they tibetans/uighurs will soon become minorities within their own territories. So even if China became democratic tomorrow, the Han chinese would be the majority, so there is NO CHANCE of these 2 provinces ever getting free cuz even in a free vote, they would loose.
I’m a realist, there is no stoping what is set in motion. No amount of columns, or whining by liberal politicians, dalai lama, etc will have no any effect whatsoever to the outcome, place your bet on that.
