some have chosen to infiltrate and dilute the message.

That's not really a 'new' tactic.

I saw that from the very first day on FR. There were discussions going on about it at the time, and from the way they talked, it had been going on for a while (like ever since Jim kicked Ariana Huffington off).

The naysayers and Palin detractors here have much in common with DUmpster divers and Kos-kooks. You joining them in bashing Palin?

Go back to Kos, dope.

Do you really think I was trying to pull a seniority issue on you? The point was, he's been her for over ten years. The comment above was uncalled for.

I'm going to tell you right now, I like Palin. I still think what she did on Friday was ill advised and self-defeating. That being the case, I'm going to tell others on the forum how I see it. And part of that is based on the reality that IMO a large spectrum of Independents and Democrats are going to see this resignation differently than we do.

Why is this important? It's important, because in 2012, Palin needs to get as many of their votes as she can, because every Conservative vote in the nation, will not win her the office of the Presidency.

Your post is a perfect example of what Beckett is talking about, saying some of the posts here right now resemble those on DU. (I didn't see him say it, I'm taking your word for it) You think that everyone who doesn't join you in circling the wagons is a D.U. plant. No, some of us just realize how this is going to affect her chances at being elected President, and we're not happy about it.

Bill Kristol (who was almost single-handedly responsible for her nomination) was shell-shocked this morning.

First of all, the notion that Bill Kristol was "single-handedly responsible for her nomination" is absurd. There is no evidence of that. He was a McCain supporter, and that was about all he was. I don't recall him being all that enthusiastic about her in August 2008.

The facts are that several McCain factions either wanted Lieberman or some other moderate to be the VP choice. Sean Hannity and Mark Levin have stated that they (and they mentioned Rush as well) lobbied hard for months to get Palin the VP slot. In either case, it was McCain's final choice, and not the popular one within his campaign.

Kristol wasn't shell-shocked. He said that maybe Palin is more "crazy like a fox" and that this may well be a very "shrewd" move on her part. He seems fairly supportive of what she is doing if she wants to seriously run.

As for why she communicates via Twitter and Facebook, she is taking advantage of modern communication techniques and bypassing the media filter. Winners try to communicate in all different ways with common, ordinary people to get their message out. That is common sense politics.

Did they see it differently for Obama or H. Clinton?

By the way, I notice you didn’t call beckett down for referring to Palin as a “pinhead woman”.

Since RonDog's on the thread, and Annie "Get Your Gun" Coulter has also commented on the lady from Alaska, let's hear from Ann:

I’m confused by all the confusion among the chattering classes about Palin. I thought her press conference explained it very clearly – though she couldn’t put it precisely this way without sounding vain, but it’s obvious.

Even though she’s just a state governor, she’s a HUGE national star who is both sought after and attacked as if she is already a president (a Bush, not an Obama). But she basically can’t participate because she’s tethered to the governor’s office up in Alaska. Consequently, she has to fight with one hand tied behind her back and she also can’t go around the country campaigning for candidates and principles she believes in – because she’s governor and would be accused of neglecting the state.

Meanwhile, the Lt. Gov. is a great guy, so she’s leaving the state in good hands and now she can go on to be an even bigger star.

It’s a weird Washington insider perspective to be perplexed by what she’s doing. Contrary to Mark Sanford’s e-mails to his mistress, no one was really impressed with him; 99.99999999999999999% of Americans didn’t know who he was. Who is more influential: Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and Bill O’Reilly, or Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford (before the fall)? As Palin said, God bless people who run for political office, but – and she didn’t say this part – she’s too big to be a lame-duck governor stuck dealing with fishing licenses in Anchorage right now.

She’ll be much bigger now and can play on the national stage without constantly setting off state ethics investigations by loons, parasites and liberals. None of this applied to McCain or Kerry – both of whom went back to the Senate – because their national campaigns diminished them. Palin’s national campaign made her a major star. As she said, she’s not retreating, she’s advancing in another direction.

“It’s just impossible to stomach the stupidity on this site anymore. After all these years of posting here, I think it’s time to find another place.

What kind of dopes cannot see that this pinhead woman, who when speaking off the cuff makes George Bush sound brilliant, just abandoned a post she was SWORN to fill, and that she did so for the flimsiest of reasons. AT BEST, she dumped Alaska on her Lt. Gov. because she wants to make money on a book and feel out her chances for national office. That’s the height of irresponsibility and self-centeredness — SHE HAD AN OATH TO UPHOLD.

Conservatives who shrug and say so what to that kind of irresponsibility are not conservatives I recognize. Can anyone imagine Ronald Reagan breaking a solemn oath?

Sarih Palin has never had a shot at the WH. She’s much too unqualified and serious people can see it whenever she opens her mouth without a script. But now it seems she’s about to lead the “true believers” at FR and other outposts of the right further into the wilderness, too, and completely marginalize conservative thought at a time when Obama is socializing the nation.

Great work Sarah.”

I have not been here as long as you have, but in the time I have spent on the forum, there is a very visible uptick in the infiltrators and frankly saboteurs, whose primary goal is to make Free Republic appear racist and annoy enough conservatives on the site that we call it quits.

No, some of us just realize how this is going to affect her chances at being elected President, and we're not happy about it.
While I disagree with you on this one, D1 -- I certainly have to admire your PATIENCE!
There is no use making enemies in this current battle unnecessarily -- since it will be a LONG war.
Perhaps circumstances will evolve in the future that will allow you change your mind about Sarah's BOLD, if risky move.

I'll bet that Sarah is a fan of General Patton:

"A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week."

I couldn't disagree with you more.

Nobody knows why she decided that she should leave as governor.

She is a lot of things, but done politically is the absolute last thing she is.

She can do many things now that she couldn't do before. She can write, give speeches, campaign for others, and avoid further frivolous ethics and legal complaints. In 3, 5, or even 9 years she could decide she wants to run for Senate, or even the presidency. As a matter of fact the More Obama gets what he wants, the more viable her future becomes.
