David Letterman is scornful of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, which is certainly his right. That he continues to use the bully pulpit of his late-night talk show to crack wise about the former vice presidential contender is acceptable also, if not exactly cutting edge comedy.
Clearly a public figure, Palin is fair game.
But Letterman went beyond the pale with his recent jokes about Palin’s daughter being “knocked up” by a New York Yankee player while attending a recent game.
Letterman claimed to be referring to Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, who had a child out of wedlock. However, Bristol wasn’t at the ballpark that day. Her 14-year-old daughter was. Logically, that makes her the focus of the wisecrack, which would be truly disturbing.
Either way, Letterman’s attempt at humor strikes us as unnecessarily and unacceptably nasty. Neither of the Palin daughters were fit targets for that kind of material.
So, what now?
We’d like to see the matter dealt with the old Scots-Irish way.
With Father’s Day coming up next Sunday, how about the two dads, Letterman and Todd Palin, having a private, man-to-man meeting in some quiet, out-of-the-way place to discuss the matter. Todd strikes us as the kind of dad who would cut to the point quickly, not wasting much of Letterman’s valuable time.
The men would meet, make their points and then Letterman’s assistants could pick him up and carry him back to the limo.
Matter closed.

It seems sensible that Sarah Palin could seize the initiative and call CBS on this. Joking about rape is really wrong: I don’t know of anybody outside of prison who would do that.
Letterman losing his job is a fair price to pay for an outrageous display of bad judgment bordering on naked aggression. For all the millions he is paid, and for all the experts helping him do his show, this sort of thing should never happen, and if it does it should be remedied.
However, the irony of this situation is that David Letterman thinks he has the right to attack Bristol Palin because she is over 18 and had a child out of wedlock. He even went as far to verify that very fact when he made his “non-apology” apology.
Meanwhile, David and his then girlfriend, both adults, not teenagers BTW, had a child out of wedlock. I understand Liberal Hypocrisy as well as the next guy, and I also understand that if we had had a truly “free press” in this country, this point would be obvious to every thinking person.
As for me, I call a Spade a Spade. Letterman is a tool, and he hides behind his comedy to slander those he disagrees with. He doesn't use facts against his perceived enemies, he uses his persona to feed off the ignorance and hatred of his audience who share is demented view of the world.

I have been SOOOOO frustrated with Bush and McLame being door mats for the leftists - unable or unwilling to have a vigorous defense of conservative principles (perhaps they didn't have the correct experience?). And who started the apology tour? It wasn't Barry... It was McLame bashing his own party.
Such timid / weak / mealy mouth politicians who, under the guise of civility, only invite and incentivise attacks from the left. Conservatives are excoriating Barry for his indecisive and weak diplomacy with rouge dictators. But Bush is noble for letting wrongs go unchallenged?
Also, President Truman went after a writer who panned his daughter’s piano playing. President Jackson didn’t play games, nor should we. It’s time we made an example of Lecher-man. Get him fired and black-balled from TV. If Rush, Glenn, Sean, Ann or someone similar had made even a mild joke about Mr. Obama’s children, we’d never hear the end of it!!

This about nails it. It is time we realize that the Left is fighting all that Sarah Palin represents. It is a multi-level thing. They want to destroy everything that brings stability to our nation. They have internalized this fight so that nothing--not any well reasoned argument--will exorcise the demon within them. That is why I call them DemonRATs. There is a demonic spirit so internalized that the only way it can be defeated is through public shame through mass demonstrations.

I find it puzzling that anyone can think that Governor Palin has deliberately stoked this ‘spat’ with Lettermann in order to garner publicity for herself. She already had a major story in the pipeline deal with XXon Mobil. Does anyone with any intelligence really believe that she wanted this kind of distraction? If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would almost believe that this distraction was deliberate. After all, the worlds biggest company, XXon and the worlds best pipeline builder have just committed to advance the biggest energy project in north America’s history! Anybody who knows the background realises that this is a major triumph for Sarah Palin, not only personally, but for her capacity to achieve almost unanimous bipartisan agreements, and to play hardball negotiations. By baiting Sarah about her family, someone knew that if she responded, she would be damned and jeered at by the usual suspects. If she did not respond, she would be damned and jeered at by the same suspects.

Letterman was an unwed father for six years before he married his babymomma a few months ago - the audacity to then turn around and put down Sarah's daughter for being an unwed mother is just unbelievable. To insinuate Sarah's younger daughter is a tramp at 14 should have been immediate grounds for firing Letterman on the spot. To then try to correct himself and say he meant the 18yo was the tramp not the 14yo just dug himself in deeper and exposed the complete tapdancing act of his Leftist handlers. He needed to apologize. But he'd rather have the ratings against Conan. And here we have an article being written 'suggesting' Todd get into the fray, while at the same time Sarah is being blamed for 'carrying this on'? Incredible.
Letterman refused to extend the same rights to the Palins he demands for himself because he sold his soul to the ratings gods who's leftist agenda is to publically belittle and ridicule Sarah Palin, her kids, her marriage, AND anyone that looks like her or lives like her or is church-attending like her or could be any sort of political threat to Zero and his alternate universe special interest supporters. Good for Palin for calling all of them out on their games and their agenda.
We need more christian women to stand up like Palin has, and put their foot down and draw a line down the sand and say, Enough is Enough. I for one am proud of Palin for speaking out against these hypocrite creepazoids and for motivating other christian women to stand up with her against this escallating 'punishment' and blacklisting of the 'bible thumping gun toting' christian families, that has been encouraged in part by this lame administration and it's associated cronies and special interest groups who have no regard for preserving our nation's Judeo-Christian heritage..
