Posted on 06/10/2009 6:29:47 PM PDT by Jessica2677

Does anyone know if this is legal? We just got a parking ticket for parking in the grass in our own yard. The ticket says "can not park on grass or unpaved area(even if your own yard). I swear to god this is what the ticket says and its a $50 ticket that doubles to $100 then doubles to $200 Does anyone know anything about this law????

You should pave your yard and then park on it, that’ll learn ‘em.

Unfortunately, you are the victim of a city council with more time on its hands than brains in its collective head. City councils, state legislatures, and the US Congress should only be in session for one week a year. Otherwise, we have busybodies creating ordinances that pretty much take away private property rights in the name of ‘community’. Communism, in other words.

And I see many here that are all for it.

Such laws and codes are antiquated anyway. It's been something like 50 years since refrigerators and freezers were made with latching doors that couldn't be opened from the inside.

Yeah, but kids can and do get in them and fall asleep. If they are air tight you end up with a dead kid. Kids can do the dumbest things sometimes.

About a year ago we started getting tickets for “blocking or parking on sidewalk” while our cars were parked in our driveway. I have fought each one (was seen by adminstrative judges), explained that there are four cars living at our house and we prefer not to park in the street. (Plus the sidewalks are so screwed up nobody uses them). The fine is $35.00. Two were dismissed & two I paid $10.00.

Cops don’t really have time to go driving around looking for cars parked on someones own lawn.

Oh, yes they do. There's a 'code-compliance officer' in Lake Worth, Texas that is a **** with ears. That's all he does all day, is snoop around and look for violations.

He's the reason that I won't kill the yellow-jacket nest on my front porch.

As you can see from lots of comments by Freepers, your property is not yours. What you do with your property can only be done if it doesn't offend your neighbors, or freepers whatever the case, sensibilities.

Move to the woods. Anybody coming to my house has to drive a 1/4 mile to get there. And yes I park wherever the hell I please.

I remember a high government official a few months ago in DC get a ticket for parking in her own driveway. That is real lunacy if you ask me.

I got a notice to cut my lawn back in April. There were some blades close to the house over 12in long. It’s City Hall’s way of telling you who’s in charge. I had pissed off a city hall worker a couple of months prior.

If you think you own it, miss a property tax payment. You will get a fast education. At best, you only rent it from one year to another from the city or county.

I’m sorry that you got the ticket. There is no real property ownership in America except for the most powerful of the oligarchs. The rest of us proles rent our property from the government.

Spoken like a tru slave. I bought it, I paid for it the title is mine. Nobody will be taking it away from me any time soon. And unlike Geitner et al I pay my taxes in full and on time.

Don’t park in the yard. If my neighbor parks in his yard, you can bet I will raise hell...

Put up a really big flag pole with a really big American Flag with flood lights so it can be flown at night while you're at it, that really irks the lefties. Also don't forget several “Palin for President” signs as well, and if you really want to make them mad tie yellow ribbons around all the trees in your yard and tell them they will come down as soon as we WIN the war on terror and all the troops are home.

You must be in the area that was on the news a couple of weeks ago where they said the local government owns your front yards and they are ticketing people for parking in their own driveways — or what they THOUGHT was their own driveways... I thought it was DC, but maybe it includes MD

I got a notice to cut my lawn back in April. There were some blades close to the house over 12in long.

The hillbillies who live behind me have weeds that reach the 5th course of siding. There is a 80's rust bucket parked next to their garage (on grass) and the very sick maple tree in their backyard continues to lean over my family room. For the past three years I have made an annual trip to City Hall (with pictures) and filed a code compliance complaint without result. I seriously doubt that they have liability insurance. When the tree splits & falls it is not going to be pretty! The retired couple that sold them the house 10 years ago were such GOOD neighbors!
