Two martinis, a swank restaurant, a Broadway show President Obama really knows how to treat a First Lady.
"I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished," the president said yesterday after touching down at JFK for an intimate night on the town.
The first couple left their girls, Sasha and Malia, behind at the White House yesterday afternoon, taking two helicopters and a small Air Force jet to make their way to Manhattan.
The Obamas were dressed to the nines -- Michelle in a sleeveless, black cocktail dress adorned with fringe, a pair of low, strappy heels and a turquoise clutch; and the president in a dark suit and white shirt, no tie.
The first stop after touch ing down at JFK was a meal at a low-key, but elegant, Greenwich Village restau rant, Blue Hill, which boasts farm fresh, locally grown dishes.
Obamas were tucked into an out-of-the- way corner table where they enjoyed a multi- course feast specially prepared by the chef. They washed down the fine fare with wine, said a fellow diner, who also no ticed Michelle re laxing with a cou ple of martinis.
Photographers were kept blocks away be hind barri cades for the first couple's privacy.
"We left them alone the entire night," said Blue Hill diner Rachael Levit, of Manhattan. "Nobody asked for autographs or took any pictures. They were laughing and talking and seemed like they had a genuinely good time."

Then it was up to Broadway, where they had tickets at the Belasco Theatre for "Joe Turner's Come and Gone," a play by August Wilson about a man coming to terms with the history of slavery.

Did you just love the way this was announced on Fox today? A ROMANTIC date to NYC. Why was GW and Laura’s trips together not branded as “romantic?”
It seems everything these 2 do is either romantic, deserved, or ignored if they want it out of the news.
Just gag me with a spoon!
Why don't you strike another blow to Vegas, Barry!

...they were dressed like they were in mourning... all black...
May I suggest a lighter evening with a play like 'The Sound of Music' or a concert with 'The Sons of the San Joaquin'.
They must enjoy being depressed.
It’s like in Shakespearean times, when the king would come to the show.”
Sorry, but that’s *NOT* “dressed to the nines”!
Dressed to the nines would be “white tie and tails”, or “cutting-edge Italian suit”.
If the Zer0’s paid for it all from their own money then no big deal. If the taxpayers footed the majority or ALL of the tab then he’s a hypocrite to the nth degree.
What? They allowed a picture to be taken of them and they weren’t holding hands, ala Slick & Her Heinous? What is the world coming to?
And Historic too! Gag me with a spoon indeed!
He looks even more miserable than she does.
No, he didn't do it because he knew it was wrong to use taxpayer money for such a selfish reason.
Another thing, George Bush was always either holding Laura's hand, gently touching her back, etc., Obama on the other hand, has his hands in his pockets. In none of these pics does he hold Michelle's hand. VERY telling...
Naturally. What else is there?
Except this was probably a future-history of the US, taken from the perspective of the year 2050, when we are all slaves to the State. Obama was looking for blueprints.
They both look miserable which makes me happy! The more miserable these two are, the happier I am.
This is NYC who voted for him in large numbers. I wouldn’t give any stock to the people cheering him as they are his minions.
Or what? Supposedly it cost us a million $$$. I would bet that the dinner and play tickets were "comped."
Someone should have told her..A BLACK bra under a black dress. It looked awful.
