A Rising Anti-Government Tide
WaPo ^ | 5/22/2009 | Newt Gingrich

Posted on 05/22/2009 5:35:30 AM PDT by SonOfDarkSkies

Americans should look carefully at the anti-politician, anti-government mood exhibited in California this week. Just as Proposition 13 and the anti-tax movement of 1978 were the forerunners of the Reagan presidential victory, so the results of Tuesday's vote are a harbinger of things to come.

The repudiation of the California establishment in the series of initiative defeats could hardly have been more decisive. Five taxing and spending measures were rejected by 62.6 to 66.4 percent of the voters. That is a consistent majority of enormous potential. An even larger majority, 73.9 percent, approved the proposition limiting elected officials' salaries when there is a deficit.

This vote is the second great signal that the American people are getting fed up with corrupt politicians, arrogant bureaucrats, greedy interests and incompetent, destructive government.

The elites ridiculed or ignored the first harbinger of rebellion, the recent tea parties. While it will be harder to ignore this massive anti-tax, anti-spending vote, they will attempt to do just that.

If they get elected they get a pension. We need to cut that too.

Considering that had these people shown up all of these measures would have passed I fail to see how this is a bad thing.

RIGHT ON!!!

Don't Really Know? Don't Really Vote!

Don't Vote, Careless!

The *REAL* lesson here is that liberals are learning to not trust the voters.

Are learning? They've known this for a long time. And not just liberals. That's why they have groups like the EPA, OSHA, and NEA - these groups command us but don't have to answer to us. They've found numerous ways to circumvent the constitution and it is we, the people, that are made to suffer for it.

Great! Thanks for the reference...

Yeah, exactly DID anyone vote on the Obama Administration’s 44mpg cafe regulation? NO; it has the force of law but is UNCONSTITUTIONAL not just because it violated the 10th, but also because it violated the “seperation of powers”- the executive is not supposed to make law, the legislature is (The Congress)-(not that they’ll do anything about it under Obama)..

“Anyone who thinks that the Kalif voters are going to throw out the Rats is dreaming. They still want their bennies, you bet. They just expect that it be paid for magically.”

Yes, as far as that goes. Not all the productive, responsible people want to leave CA though. (for instance Phoenix job picture is much brighter than many cites in CA). For those responsible people who stay, there will be a day of reckoning - even for those who voted for dear leader. That day may have begun with the proposition votes.

Yes - we MUST storm the castle.

As an encouragement, there are already hundreds and hundreds of Tea Parties planned for July 4th - as well as the weekend before and after the 4th! Get involved at your local Tea Party. Write a letter to the editor or call in to one of the local radio stations about the Tea Party in your locale or organize and provide logistics or go to your local capital and support the group there. BE ENCOURAGED that this is going VIRAL. We must continue, as they eventually *cannot* ignore us:

Hey Newt, if ya ever read this, why didn't ya mention the historical CAL PROP 187, that would have put a halt to tax funded services for illegal aliens?

Remember? The prop that Californians voted overwhelmingly for and it won big.

Remember, the prop where the corrupt federal insiders and their state government co-conspirators burned our ballots and declared our free election illegal.

The results of that massive government intrusion into our free election can now be seen in every city, town and state in this country.

Remember that Newt?

That was not the subject he was addressing, he was talking about the tax, big government issue.

You responded to the above.

By the way, are you suggesting this government sponsored invasion of millions across our borders has nothing to do with taxes and big government?

Please, please, please, tell me you're joking? lol...

the people have the kind of government they deserve. You Californians owe all Americans a big apology for allowing this to happen.

wow...And I guess you deserve Obama.

Do you understand that millions entering this country illegally have completely undermined our system?

Do you understand this lawlessness and fraud has completely compromised even our electoral process?

Helllllo..... (This guy is joking right?)

One other thing, due to the Federal government aiding and abetting, and even publicly encouraging this lawless, epic invasion of our borders, it has not only cost California tens of billions in tax dollars, it has cost every single state in this country hundreds of billions in tax dollars.

As a matter of fact, the cost to the American people in just the past 10 years, is not even calculable.

Some of us little people saw this coming long ago.

Newt should get out more.

Chilling, isn't it?

Sure is.

Human nature's immutable, as the authors of the Constitution were acutely aware.

Terrible things are happening here.

>> Americans should look carefully at the anti-politician, anti-government mood exhibited in California this week.

>> The politicians have been warned.

Newt’s motivated - the voters, however, are ‘desperated’.

Political opportunism isn’t always a bad thing providing it’s squandered for the right reasons...

“Newt likes to talk to himself alot. Don’t trust him as far as you can throw him.”

He came to my company one time and talked to the employees for awhile. Then he took some questions. A guy asked why there was no privacy anymore in America and why couldn’t we pass laws protecting our personal information.

Newt said that when the country was young if you wanted to live by yourself you could move out west and not be bothered. But that’s not true anymore, he says. He said something about us all in this together blah, blah, blah or some such nonsense.

Newt’s answer inclines me to believe that he believes in a beneficent gov’t, totally opposed to the way Reagan viewed gov’t.

I agree with you, I don’t trust him much. He is for Amnesty for illegal immigrants, he is an Algore supporter of the Global Warming baloney, and several other non-conservative view.

He’s trying to outdo Obama on being the consensus builder. One look at his website will tell you that.

Just for you, I posted the above again. Bolding the obvious part.

I must say, you seem very detached to what is happening in this country, and I base that on the fact that you implied and suggested of *millions* of illegal aliens have little to do with the tax burden and debt incurred by the American people.

That was not the subject he was addressing, he was talking about the tax, big government issue.

Millions of illegal aliens have cost the American people tens of billions in tax payer funds every year, not to mention crippling our hospitals, jails, schools, social services, crime, etc etc, and you make the above, ludicrous comment.

It's comments like this that make those capable of critical thought, just shake their heads in utter amazement.

If I was detached to what was happening my fifty years of political activism and ten years at FR is a funny way of showing it. I must also point out that your statement that I 'implied and suggested' that illegal aliens have little to do with the tax burden and debt of Americans is a lie, putting it plainly. I said that they were not the SAME issue, and implied that it is not necessary to always conflate a discussion of one with a discussion of the other one.

If my tone seems too unemotional to you, please read my tagline.

I said that they were not the SAME issue

Here is exactly what you stated.

That was not the subject he was addressing, he was talking about the tax, big government issue.

Again, you clearly attempted to suggest here that millions of illegal aliens have nothing to do with taxes or big government.
