Needed: a new name or better acronym for Tea Parties?? (very brief Vanity)

“TEA” in Tea Parties has been interpreted as standing for “Taxed Enough Already.” This is catchy and a clever linkage to the original Boston Tea Party. However it is such a narrow acronym that it seriously understates the scope of the current protest movement and lends credence to the left’s assertion that Tea Party protestors are just greedy rich people afraid they’ll have to pay a little more in taxes. The hundreds of thousands who are involved in today’s Tea Party movement are well informed Americans, deeply concerned about a host of issues beyond taxes: national security, socialization, corruption, voter fraud, illegal immigration, and abortion, to name just a few. It seems to me the movement would be better served a better served by a different definition of the acronym “TEA” or an entirely new name – something stronger than tea. Do you agree? If so, your thoughts and creative suggestions could be helpful to protest organizers and participants.

I suggested in a previous thread the use of the name 'Patriot Parties', here are some of my reasons for using this name:
1. The protest are not just about taxes, it is about the whole wasteful self-serving corrupt filled way that our own government does business.
2. Dissent is patriotic, so we were told enough while President Bush was in office, time to let the 'Leftist' own words to be used against them.
3. The heart and the goal I think of our protest is to save and protect the Republic that our founding Fathers sacrificed so much to create and to me that should every Patriot's first priority.

Ping. You’re absolutely right. Whatever new name is chosen will be demonized by the left anyway. Personally, I think the left’s verbal response to the Tea Parties was weak and churlish.

The historical underpinning for the Tea Parties resonates way beyond the dem rant. Furthermore, it is all about taxes in the end—just as it was with King George. I think the the taxes:tea party alliteration is simple and catchy. Morevover, taxes are a burden on everyone.

Leave the Tea Party label alone and focus on substance is the ticket to conservative resurgeance.

It doesn’t matter. All kinds of protests against BO’s asinine governing and congress’s fat-cat featherbedding were displayed on signs. The subjects weren’t limited at all. The Boston Tea Party is a good symbol to rally around, because it is remembered in history as being about unfair taxes, and taxes are one of the worst aspects of this administration.

Perfect.

The left absolutely HATES being equated with fascism
(it’s what they truly are, and what they accuse the right of being).

TEA Party is good. We need more advertizing and more publicity and more people. We had one million at the first go round, lets have 5 million on the 4th of July.

No Birth Certificate, no Census. The tax receipts are way down, people are responding. Starve them out. We have the oil and gas, and we have the food. Use that to our advantage.

When states’ sovereignty wasn’t overridden by federal laws,

you had a fifth box, somewhere in the jury/ballot zone: the moving box.

You could move to another state more favorable to your level of desired government.

We can have "spin off" organizations.

Each town can have a "chapter" of the tea party movement and name that chapter themselves.

Look to the American Revolution - bring some of the other names from that time forward - "tea party" wasn't the only protest during the founding of our country...

Stay with TEA PARTY for the main organization - it has name recognition and a solid following.

No, the Tea Party was more broadly about tyranny of government. No matter what acronym or phrase you use, the Obama Press Poodles will distort or willfully misunderstand it. The only way to counter it is with aggressive action on the "language Front." For decades the left, with the fulll support of the press, has monopolized the language. It is time to take it back. Do not accept their twisted terminology. DO NOT let them use the term "immigration" instead of "illegal immigration" --ever. Call them on it every time. Belittle them on it if necessary.
