Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears is on a short list of candidates to replace U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter, according to media reports. Souter reportedly will step down in June.
Sears, who will also step down in June, has served on the state’s highest court since 1992. The first woman and youngest justice in the court’s history, she was also its first African-American female chief justice. Sears has kept her plans for her retirement private, although she has hinted at wanting a larger public role.
Earlier this year Sears was announced as a finalist for Dean of the University Maryland School of Law. She later removed herself from contention, saying she wanted to seek other opportunities.
Sears has been mentioned as a possible choice for President Barack Obama since before he won the election in 2008. She has been reluctant to discuss her future. Georgia Supreme Court spokesperson Jane Hansen said this week Sears was not talking to the media.
“Chief Justice Sears really believes it would be inappropriate to talk about whatever may be going on, so she is not going to comment,” Hansen said.
Sears did speak with Southern Voice during the “For Children’s Sake: Get Married, Stay Married,” conference, which she helped to organize in November. She described herself as a “moderate-progressive type person” in a wide-ranging interview where she talked about her frustration with the media and hinted about her future.

Yes,given the opportunity Hussein will pack the court with the filthiest vermin ever known to wear black robes.But remember that he may well not get the chance to replace any of the truly decent members of the court.We can only pray.
Pray for continued health and well-being for the Justices Alito, Roberts, Thomas, and Scalia . If we lose ANY of them, it's the end of the Constitution for 30 or 40 years! They may well have an opportunity to place replacements for Ginsburg and Stevens (no loss in those two, for sure).

I doubt she would get it if this is the case. Obama doesn’t want one of his picks to turn out like Justice Thomas.
