Just more UAW “stimulation”. Wanna bet you have to buy a Government Motors vehicle to qualify?

Bernanke’s infamous “helicopter” speech made an oblique mention of this as a possibility. Virtually every crazy, desperate, probably illegal, trick in the book he threw out in that speech has been put into action.

We’re screwed. We’re so screwed. And I drive a 2001 Corolla and have been thinking about trading it in on a Jeep or Subaru.

So I get a little tax credit if I take on a monthly car payment, which I don’t have with my paid for truck?

People usually drive old clunkers because they can’t afford anything better. If the Government buys them chances are they’ll just buy another clunker if they can, not a new car they can’t afford.
Maybe Obama and company will buy them all a new vehicle too?

If the alleged driver of this is saving mutha-earf... I’d echo an argument made in Car Craft magazine that it is likely more environmentally responsible to fix up your old clunker.
How much carbon footprint goes into manufacturing a new car vs. fixing up what you have? Of course, my brain is wired to have the fix up involve 400+ horsepower!

how far away can we be from a tax increase levied on those who do own "clunkers"? And who is to say where "clunkerism" starts? and who doesn't believe that this will wind up as a tax on anyone that doesn't own a "government approved" vehicle?
we're right around the corner from being forced to buy whatever nancy pelosi thinks is best for us.

Anathema to hot rodders.
Dingell is just wanting full employment for the UAW. If this passes my next car will be from a non-union company - and I currently own a Chrysler and a Lincoln.

Wonder what the details are. I have a 1984 Chevy pickup w/ a blown head gasket, scrap value probably less than $1000. If .gov wants to give me $4500 for it, and I buy a foreign econo-box in return, I won't argue.
Of course, I'll be keeping my two CUCV's, the M35, and the Suburban...

I have a 1969 Power Wagon.
It has a flatbed with a PTO-driven hydraulic dump.
It hauls mostly firewood, gravel, leaves, and brush.
I won't trade it for anything.
I drive that truck at most 500 miles per year. How is replacing it with a new truck going to save carbon?
Yeah, I know. I'll just pull the plates and keep it on the farm.

I have a 1982 MB 300SD and is our second car. It has close to 200,000 miles on it.I am retired and only drive it about a 1000 miles a year. I will keep it as long as it runs. Why should I get a new car unless they offer me enough to get a new car? The next 4 year are going to be very long and miserable and costly.

a broader effort to fight climate change Much like LBJs war on poverty, climate will win. Taxpayers will lose.
