Unlike Romney's "National Council for a New America," Free Republic is a conservative site!

I'm going to try one more time to explain what FR is all about.

Free Republic is a conservative site. That does not necessarily mean it is a Republican site. In fact there may be many Republicans we don't support and some Republican issues we cannot agree with.

I'll throw in Arlen Specter as a prime example of a Republican we cannot support. Should be obvious to all why not. Should also be just as obvious to all that we cannot support Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, John McCain and his lap dog Lindsay Graham, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, et al.

Some of the issues we cannot support as conservatives even though sometimes initiated by so-called Republicans include TARP, or any kind of government bailout of private enterprise, federal intrusion into free markets, federalized education systems, government provided or controlled health care systems, abortion, gay marriage, amnesty, global warming, gun control, etc.

I guess there is more than one definition of conservatism floating around out there, and this won't be text book, but the one we use involves defending, preserving and protecting our constitution, our unalienable rights, our traditional family values, our American heritage, our nation, our borders and our sovereignty.

We aggressively defend our rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!

We aggressively defend our rights to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom to keep and bear arms, right to due process, right to equality under the law, right to be governed under the rule of law, right to constitutionally limited government, right to corruption free government, right to self-government and our private property rights, etc.

We also aggressively defend our right to state and local government for all issues not expressly delegated to the central government by the constitution.

We aggressively defend our rights to free markets and our rights to live our lives free of government intrusion, interference, coercion, force, or abuse of any kind.

We aggressively defend our rights to national sovereignty, state sovereignty and individual sovereignty!

And this definition also includes aggressively fighting against all enemies foreign and domestic who may try to deprive us of our rights or sovereignty. This would obviously include all foreign enemies, but also we defend against RINOS, Democrats, liberals, socialists, Marxists, communists, militant feminists or homosexualists, radical environmentalists, etc, etc, etc.

And we expect our elected representatives to also aggressively defend our rights and fight against all enemies foreign and domestic. We do not elect people and send them to DC or our state capitals, etc, to reach across the aisles or to be bipartisan or to negotiate or compromise away our rights. If you're not going to aggressively fight for us, and for our rights, STAY OUT!!

We bow to no king but God!

Our God-given unalienable rights are NOT negotiable!

Do NOT Tread on US!

Thank you very much!

Can we focus on the issues and candidates and not on their respective religion?

- - - - - - - - - -
For some candidates their religion and their fitness for office are very closely linked.

Our faith affects our worldview, our politics (by extension of worldviews) and we would govern if elected.

Some more than others, granted. But it is not a ‘non’ issue.

It’s almost funny that those who have criticized Romney are constantly being charged with being rude to his supporters, yet some of the worst posts have been by Romney fans.

I have been called more names this past weekend on these threads for not supporting Romney. than I ever have in any other 48 hour period in my life. LOL.

Why would you post such an unflattering picture of Reagan just to get a rise? It is most likely photoshop! I have a feeling you were not so fond of him!

You are joking right? That photo came from a White House Correspondence Dinner where Reagan was once again displaying his incredible sense of humor by saying he heard that everything was "off the record so he always wanted to do this to the press".

Um...we are the ones consistently called “bigots”, “anti-mormons”, “liars”, even on one of these threads “socialist DU infiltrators”.

You have never been called any of those names by me, although I have seen some folks distort the truth about Mitt Romney's record and attempt to discredit him because of his faith. I would be happy to compare which side here has done the majority of the name calling. There are a few serial offenders on the anti-Romney side who should have been banned because the content and tone of their posts were in clear violation of the FR user agreement. It definitely reflects poorly on the site when this is what can be expected whenever Mitt Romney's name comes up. Disagree with his policies but there is no need for ad hominem attacks.

I missed him and pray someone will come along with his depth of our country!

In the general election I worked within the confines of reality and voted for the lesser of two evils.

- - - - - - - - - - -
I am TIRED of voting for the lesser of two evils. All my voting life I have been doing that. GHWB, Dole, McCain, GWB.

ENOUGH!

Did you miss the text of Jim's post?

It is a combination of all of that here.

Furthermore, to belabor the topic to the point of incredulity, as is often demanded by “Team Romney” members for reasons unknown yet oft speculated over, Mitt is a multi-topic offender. He hits on a number of points across the full spectrum of Conservative issues, not just a select few.

He just happens to hit in the wrong direction...

And by that, hopefully, will put to bed -- finally -- the Great White Horse Hope -- the false prophesy uttered by Latter-Day founder J. Smith that the constitution would hang by a thread, and that the Mormons would come to the rescue...

Well, he got the first part right. We'll just have to wait to see how the second plays out.

It's a great picture of the Gipper. His sense of humor was his greatest asset. It worked because it wasn't “rehearsed”.

The man was real.

“You might want to read this”

Thank you, I have read it and most of this thread. Romney holds no office and is not setting policy. Just for the record, who do/did you support ... was it Huckabee (he scared me more than Romney did) or was it Fred “don’t answer that question” Thompson.

The election is over, it is time to look forward and choose candidates that can begin to fix this mess. Henry Brown (it is a terrible bill but we must support it) Brown is one that should go, Graham is another.

As far as the next presidential candidates, I would like to see Barbour and Sanford in the mix and that they have stiff competition from candidates who believe that security, prosperity and freedom are essential for the benefit of society .... then mix in a little law and order justice and we should be on the way to recovery. Time is short don’t waste it on nonsense. Oh yes, fix the dang election process, a vote that is canceled by a fraudulent vote is a vote that doesn’t ... EVERY VOTE SHOULD COUNT.

I will disagree with you on that, to me, one of Reagan's greatest strengths was his sense of humor and to me pictures like that make me think of all the times he made us laugh and was forever giving the press (who hated him) grief.

I do feel the same way you do about missing him, but unfortunately a man like him only comes along once in a life time and quit possible only once in a nation's history.  I just hope we can find somebody that admires him as much as we do and tries to honor and emulate him and his legacy.

I had the great honor of meeting him in 1989, my dad is a preacher and one of the members at our church owned the ranch next to his and she took our family to spend a weekend there. She was a friend and donor all the way back to his governor days and she arranged a very short but extremely meaningful meeting that all of us will cherish and brag about for the rest of our lives.

Why don’t you directly challenge the Club for Growth rating in this case? They are reasonable people, and you seem to have a reasonable argument.

Then what is you solution? You can vote for who’s on the ticket (or write in) or you can stay home. It would be nice if we had candidates that valued honor and duty but they are few and the pool for recruiting such candidates doesn’t seem very large at this time. I think a revival, with spiritual overtones, will be necessary for it to happen at all. I hope we are still looked on as worthy of grace, but we have to do our part .... you know, that faith without works thing.
