I'm going to try one more time to explain what FR is all about.
Free Republic is a conservative site. That does not necessarily mean it is a Republican site. In fact there may be many Republicans we don't support and some Republican issues we cannot agree with.
I'll throw in Arlen Specter as a prime example of a Republican we cannot support. Should be obvious to all why not. Should also be just as obvious to all that we cannot support Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, John McCain and his lap dog Lindsay Graham, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, et al.
Some of the issues we cannot support as conservatives even though sometimes initiated by so-called Republicans include TARP, or any kind of government bailout of private enterprise, federal intrusion into free markets, federalized education systems, government provided or controlled health care systems, abortion, gay marriage, amnesty, global warming, gun control, etc.
I guess there is more than one definition of conservatism floating around out there, and this won't be text book, but the one we use involves defending, preserving and protecting our constitution, our unalienable rights, our traditional family values, our American heritage, our nation, our borders and our sovereignty.
We aggressively defend our rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!
We aggressively defend our rights to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom to keep and bear arms, right to due process, right to equality under the law, right to be governed under the rule of law, right to constitutionally limited government, right to corruption free government, right to self-government and our private property rights, etc.
We also aggressively defend our right to state and local government for all issues not expressly delegated to the central government by the constitution.
We aggressively defend our rights to free markets and our rights to live our lives free of government intrusion, interference, coercion, force, or abuse of any kind.
We aggressively defend our rights to national sovereignty, state sovereignty and individual sovereignty!
And this definition also includes aggressively fighting against all enemies foreign and domestic who may try to deprive us of our rights or sovereignty. This would obviously include all foreign enemies, but also we defend against RINOS, Democrats, liberals, socialists, Marxists, communists, militant feminists or homosexualists, radical environmentalists, etc, etc, etc.
And we expect our elected representatives to also aggressively defend our rights and fight against all enemies foreign and domestic. We do not elect people and send them to DC or our state capitals, etc, to reach across the aisles or to be bipartisan or to negotiate or compromise away our rights. If you're not going to aggressively fight for us, and for our rights, STAY OUT!!
We bow to no king but God!
Our God-given unalienable rights are NOT negotiable!
Do NOT Tread on US!
Thank you very much!
I sure managed to mess up my last post. Sorry about that. Don’t know what I did wrong, but that format is as wrong as wrong can be.
Hope you could make heads or tails out of it.
A Republican who has opinions and/or votes on some issues that are more moderate or even considered to be liberal.
For example, I know someone who is in every way a conservative EXCEPT that this person believes in a woman’s right to choose whether or not to have an abortion. This person is personally against abortion, but feels that it a moral issue best addressed personally than via the government. Now that guy would be called a “rino”. And so be it. I still want that person as a friend, and as someone who would still vote for a conservative candidate who is pro-life.
I don’t believe that the majority of Americans are perfect conservatives (those that agree 100% with the conservative platform). And I don’t think we can convince them to become more conservative if we don’t show some respect for their personal views while trying to convince them to come around to our way of thinking.
Grassroots conservatism is a good thing, but you don’t make friends by making them your enemy.
Yes he is!
Gun grabbin’, Queer agenda lovin’, Abortion promotin’, Socialist.
There isn't a conservative bone in his worthless body.

Ok, so being pro-choice is one issue which can define someone as being a "moderate RINO". Are there others?
If someone is a "Republican In Name Only", isn't he or she really a Democrat?
In the past, Romney was not as conservative on some of the social issues as I wish he had been. But there’s no way you can call him a socialist. He is as much of a committed capitalist as anyone running.
He is and always will be a worthless POS!
“Ok, so being pro-choice is one issue which can define someone as being a “moderate RINO”. Are there others?

Of course there are other issues but I see no need to list them all.
As to your second question, the answer is, “no”. If I were to tell my “rino” friend that because he disagreed on one Republican/conservative issue, he should become a Democrat, he’d laugh me out of the cabin. Actually, he’d probably want to kick my arse, and I’d deserve it.
Don’t confuse the inmates with facts. They’re too busy reaching for their pitchforks and thinning the herd believing that will make them a majority.
Good call.
It is not “socialist” health care. It was an attempt to do something about the uninsured “free riders” who were bankrupting hospitals and/or forcing the insured to pick up the costs, and to head of socialized medicine.
He left all the provision of services and insurance in the private sector.
Your crude vitriol is quite amusing. Amusing, because I really wonder what makes you think you are qualified to pass judgment on someone of Romney’s caliber. I have not agreed with Mitt on everything. But you can hardly call him “worthless.” He is extremely intelligent and accomplished and has lived an upright life. In fact, of all the major candidates — including Sarah — he has lived the most “conservative” life. His wife wasn’t pregnant when they got married, all his grandchildren have been born in wedlock. There has never been a hint of scandal around him, either in his personal behavior or business dealings.
But, go ahead with you name-calling if it boosts your own self-esteem.
That’s “head off socialized medicine.”
Kinda the “lowest common denominator” of conservatives.
Perhaps I'm not qualified to pass judgment on him, but JimRob sure is.
Nothing I've said about the worthless liberal puke hasn't been said before here, many times!

I see.

So, you disagree that RINO actually means Republican In Name Only?
Thanks for your thoughts.
***And thanks for yours.
I am well aware that this is a conservative website. Thats why I signed on. But as a conservative I do have some opinions of my own regarding how we treat others, rinos in particular.
***I have my own opinions. You have yours. We saw how the RINOs acted during the rudybot days and I have relinquished my desire to reach across the aisle to them, particularly on a conservative website that they continually try to subvert. If they started their own GOPModerate.com website, they’d have 1/20th the audience and they know it. Look how fast Wankers folded.
I cant hardly convince someone to come around to my way of thinking if I spend more time insulting them than conversing with them.
***Good enough point, but the insult still holds if their ilk voted for Obama.
Just because this is a conservative website does not mean that it is not read by rinos who could have, might have changed their opinions on some of the issues if it werent for all the insults and irrational hatred being slung at em.
***There’s nothing irrational about the insults being slung at them. You sweep with a broad brush. Contempt is not hatred.
Find a conservative candidate and then convince everyone, rinos included, that they are the best candidate for our countrys future.
***We’d have a lot better time convincing conservatives on this conservative site if there weren’t so many faux-conservatives posting in the hopes of separating us from our core beliefs. Since you have such a heart for RINOs, find your own RINO candidate on a RINO website and convince all them RINOs that he/she’s the big Kahuna, and then move on to convincing conservatives.
Romney is not a socialist, I don’t care who says he is. Not as good on social issues, at least in the past, as I would like. But not a socialist.
And he is not deserving of crude ad hominem, I don’t care who utters it.
“but JimRob sure is.”
Why?
Mutt needs to be driven out of Republican politics. Once that happens I wont care what the worthless puke does.
In the land of the blind, crude ad hominems pass as vision and the speaker, visionary.
God help us all.
