'Ammunition Accountability' Legislation. (No ammo sales after 6/30/2009)
email | 4/20/2009

Posted on 04/20/2009 2:33:55 PM PDT by IbJensen

Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009.

It has already started: 'Ammunition Accountability' Legislation.

Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacturer, a data base of all ammunition sales. So, they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.) They will also charge a 05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun! This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

Inform your friends in these states AND fight to dissolve this BILL!

I guess this could mean that I need to include not only my Redskin season tickets...but many, many, many cases of ammo in my Will as well?

If the government is going to make us destroy something that we legally purchased, then it will have to pay just compensation for the de facto taking of private property. Given the cost of ammo and the likely increase in the cost of ammo as a result of this legislation, most of these states will not be able to afford to pay us fair market value.

We have some dork here in CA pushing magazine registration.

I agree. Times and Newsweek for example have no business spreading propaganda.

What’s that? Gun magazines?

Never mind!

Should be noted (as always) that the company that owns the patent on this technology is the primary customer of the law firm that authored the legislation in the States. What better way to sell a product that nobody wants by passing a law requiring that product. Can you say conflict of interest?

I can say it three times:

Conflict of Interest.
Conflict of Interest.
Conflict of Interest.

I figure the horrible truth deserves to be repeated.

Umm, I used all my ammo at target practice. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I don't think they'd like my definition of 'destroyed'.....more like 'used'......

If each box has a unique code, they will need at least an 11 digit code with letters and numbers in it, given the amount of ammo sold commercially in the USA. Imagine how many 50 rd boxes of .22 get sold every year.

Assuming that the sales keep up with historical levels, of course.

Along with the code comes ammo registration, so if the police find a slug at a crime scene that has part of your code on it, you will be hauled in for questioning while your home is searched for all ammo, and your guns temporarily borrowed for ballistics testing, fingerprinting, serial number check for registration, and DNA profiling.

I’d expect a civil suit from an aggrieved family (helped by a nonprofit grief counseling organization) since you are responsible (it is your bullet after all).

Rhode Island’s Governor,Don Carcieri will not sign any anti-firearms bills, and there are enough pro gun legislators to kill any such attempt.Believe it or not, maany of the staunchest supporters of gun rights here are Democrats.
Our federal delegation are anti-gun leftist scum, one and all.

This was 2008 legislation that died a sad, lonely death here in AZ. As long as Republicans remain in the majority, it will never breathe life, no matter how many times the Demonrats try to get it passed.

Has anyone even tried to buy certain ammo the last several months? I’ve been trying to buy some 380 since Christmas for my girlfriend’s mother. I’ve been to Tennessee, Connecticutt, Vermont, New Hampshire, Indiana, Kentucky, Oregon and who knows where else all to no avail. Even most of the online stores I’ve checked are out of stock. They can’t take our guns, but they can sure control the ammo.

Okay, sanity check.

The House Bill for Maryland (for example) that was cited by the link was for LAST YEARS SESSION and is dead.

2008 Regular Session bill information current as of November 23, 2008 - 0:19 a.m.

Please make sure the information you provide is at least ACCURATE.

While this in no way should say they won't try something like this in the future, it's stuff like this that makes me think that our own 2nd Amendment brothers are simply stirring the pot in order to make gun/ammo sales.

Good luck trying to enforce destroying all that ammo.

Now, now. Let's not be so negative. Banning drugs has worked so well. The war on drugs can serve as an excellent guide for the war on guns.

In fact, this bill died in every one of the states in which it was introduced (during the Bush administration, by the way). It has not been adopted and isn’t pending in any state.

I can think of one great way to “destroy it,” but I don’t think those legislators would like it too much...not that it would matter after it was “destroyed.” :)

If things continue as they are, patriots won’t have any problem destroying their ammunition.

That is a bvasic tenet of mine. Since lawyers are technically officers of the court, they belong to the judicial branch of government, and their participation in the legislative or executive branches (other than as staff counsel) is at it's very core, a conflict of interest.

Not the same. The average drug addled idiot has nothing to lose but honest gun owners have plenty to lose and are overwhelmingly law biding.
