Washington (CNN) - Steve Schmidt, a key architect of John McCain's presidential campaign, is making his first public return to Washington a bold one.
Schmidt will use a speech Friday to Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights group, to urge conservative Republicans to drop their opposition to same-sex marriage, CNN has learned.
"There is a sound conservative argument to be made for same-sex marriage," Schmidt will say, according to speech excerpts obtained by CNN. "I believe conservatives, more than liberals, insist that rights come with responsibilities. No other exercise of one's liberty comes with greater responsibilities than marriage."

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
I wonder where the troll went . . .
Thank you manc for the condolences. I miss him. He was only 42 when he died 3 years ago.
the ability of humans to rationalize their behavior is boundless
Republicans do not need to support this nonsense.
Thanks for posting this, you have my deepest condolences.
Thank you gidget. My brother and I were close, I spoke with him by phone every day on the way home from work.
utter and pure unadulterated horseshite.
propogated by fags in Hollywood and other fellow travelers like the ones who think Deliverance was a documentary.
if you think men will suck another man off or take it up the butt volunatarily (or vice versa) just becsue they can't get a woman then you don't know real men too well dear....but like I said some groups are more prone to it but not the one Mccain belongs to.
by your logic then most forward combat men in Afghanistan have gone queer and what about most boys 12-15?
most of them aren't getting any, reckon they are "obtaining sexual relief" from one another.
Mccain going queer in the Hanoi Hilton is insulting and ridiculous.
You do know the folks who promoted and one of the stars in Midnight Express was himself queer and later died of AIDs right?
Schmidt’s sister is homosexual and he has a long record opposing social conservatives in case anyone failed to notice the fine print.
Excellent article about Blackstone’s and the founder’s views of homosexuality.
The Founding Fathers viewed such acts as homosexuality and abortion to be mortal sins and capital crimes. The notion that they would ever envision of a day when “homosexual marriage” was even a consideration is unfathomable.
Much appreciated wagglebee. You know it was really hard for the whole family because we are fairly close. AIDS is simply a collateral damage or health risk issue from choosing to be gay, just like black-lung disease is a risk for coal miners. I am a cancer survivor (after surgery and chemo, now in the clear!), so I have a very good understanding for what it is like to live life knowing you are in the grip of a powerful and perhaps deadly disease. My brother was very courageous even to the end and I was able to support him emotionally in his struggle.
Political parties do not need to promote the gay life style that brings with it exposure to this terminal and ugly disease.
Are you a newbie or a troll?

I’m sure you were. I am fortunate, I have seven, and 4 sisters. I love them all. No relationship is like that of siblings.
I will say a prayer for his soul. I’m sure you have many times already, but may he rest in peace.
He’s been following the liberaltarian directives too long and his thinking processes are severely impaired. As well as moral vision.
Thank you so much for the prayers. Philip was his name.
You are not aware of the penalties for homosexuality in this country in the 18th century. Did you know that Thomas Jefferson, George Wythe, George Mason and a couple other men were given the task to revise the Virginia code? Jefferson's part included those statutes which dealt with homosexuality.
More here
Looks like I arrived on the scene too late. The account of MoreGovLess has been “banned or suspended.” And everyone else already made a great argument. In case MoreGovLess is still reading, I just want to add:
MoreGovLess,
Your argument (used mostly by leftists) makes no rational sense. It’s not a proper analogy because you’re equating ancestry with sex.
It’s the same as justifying “same-sex” marriage based on Italian/Spanish marriage or Russian/ English marriage, etc. Would you ever put forth that: “People of the same sex should be able to marry because an Irish person can marry a French person.”
I’m sure you’d agree such an analogy wouldn’t make sense. Yet, you’re putting forth that: “People of the same sex should be able to marry because a European can marry an African or Asian person, etc.”
People (mostly leftists) who make this analogy should think more about what they’re really saying there. ;-)
Btw, I’ve come across your argument in person, too, and here’s what one woman said to me: “Well, you know, [interracial marriage] was illegal, too.” So, in case you’re having the same thought, I’d like to point out: Two things being illegal doesn’t mean they’re the same. Really, think about it. I used to have similar “liberal” ideas (albeit at a much younger age), until eventually I came to see the error.
So our job is the difficult one... that is, we have to educate those who think they're right when they really have no clue they're wrong.
There are so very many legitimate arguments against homosexuality (the behavior) but for those who argue for it, well, they have nothing but: why would anybody choose their same-sex attraction which continues to demonstrate their lack of knowledge—they just don't get it, and that makes our job all the more difficult.
Good news... through science, patience and long discussions, two co-workers no longer believe homosexuals are born that way. Hang in there!
Good to “see” you, Scripter!
