Governor Says Texas Can Leave Union If It Wants (with audio)
Houston Chronicle ^ | April 15, 2009

"Texas is a unique place. When we came into the union in 1845, one of the issues was that we would be able to leave if we decided to do that," Perry said. "My hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention. We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, who knows what may come of that."

A friendly wager, anyone, on which state will attempt to secede first. Will it be Texas or New Hampshire?

Well, I think the Union’s take on that would be that the CW revoked that. I think the Union goobermint might be in for a surprise.

Governor, keep ruffling feathers! You have won me over in the last few weeks and proven you are a true movement conservative. That took cojones.

Actually, the annexation stipulated the right to divide into four additional states, for a total of five. with the Mason-Dixon line to determine whether slave or free.

That’s 10 senators in all, which would wad up Pelosi’s panties aplenty.

Except for football we have a lot in common. (My daughter is an OU grad)

Heck, over half the Oklahoma football team is from Texas. I could see Oklahoma joining, not so much Louisiana. New Mexico would have a few years ago, but not any more.

BobL — Agree completely with your assessment of Gov. Goodhair.

However, who you gonna vote for to get rid of him? Kay Bailey is just as bad. Kinky? You thinking of running?

Can we convert John Sharp?

I hope Perry is serious and starts getting serious about illegal immigration.
TX should also pass a law demanding proof of NBC for POTUS election.

I've run across bills in the Texas Legislature's pipeline that would take a while to track down, but address both issues. They have to get to his desk before he can do anything with them so we'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

we would be the fifth or sixth largest economy in the world...

Not quite.

Depending on the measure, somewhere between 9th and 11th, with about the same GDP as Russia and India. I think the "5th and 6th largest" number you are thinking of is military power, if you take the number of active duty Texans in the military.

If TX left the union without firing a shot at anybody do you think US servicemen would shoot at them? I really doubt it.

I don't know...they did for Stinkin Lincoln.

It's a different time now. Americans wouldn't stand for it.

Texas is in great economic condition however, it by no means would be one of the top four or five economies by GDP in the world.

According to Wikipedia Texas would be 10th. Right after Canada and ahead of Brazil.

And just ahead of Mexico.

However, entire discussion is an exercise of the absurd as Texas is not going to succeed from the Union.
