WAUSAU, Wis. A man suspected of stealing a plane from Canada, flying erratically over three states and attracting U.S. fighter escorts was in custody Tuesday after landing on a rural Missouri road.

Not overkill since 9/11 and the fact that he crossed an international border.
Welcome to FR.
Oh, ho—what have we here? I think we have Jihadist who had a mission to test American response to his intrusion into our air space in a civilian airplane. Do we know if the airplace was explosive laden?
I invited the welcoming committee of old sarge and darkwing104 to join the thread.
Oh, and IBTZ....
I laughed out loud when CNN said this morning that he “supposedly” entered the US illegally.
Maybe you should contact John R about how to get rid of that.
Don't worry about having to point out the obvious to certain people. Always remember: There are some on FR that just go around and yell nastily at everyone. Sometimes they leave in a huff but dang if they don't always seem to come back like a bad penny. :)
That's the funniest thing I've heard yet about the state boards. I love it!
I know the CA board was broken for a bit and one could not get the notifications to stop or to start (depending on what you wanted). I think it's fixed now. Might be the same for the Illinois board BUT, the Congo is a nice place to "from". heh
I always loved that tag)
This man stole a plane, flew across an international border, refused to communicate verbally with his escorts and refused to follow their hand signals to land. He didn’t come close to any east or west coast cities, but he went over my state capitol. He could have flown into it. Who knows what he could have carried onto that plane to make a crash more deadly to those in the city.
They should have shot him down over a field in northern Wisconsin and asked questions later. This inaction by whomever was in command put civilian lives in danger. And don’t think future terrorists were not watching this.
Yep, this whole thing stinks and should not be taken at face value.
Will we never learn from history?
Read post #4. The plane wasn’t stolen. He was a student pilot and could fly the plane.
“BUT, to compare shooting down an unresponsive suspicious plane like this to someone being shot for speeding, is ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS!
“
Disobeying authority is the issue here. Disobey authority and be put to death??
We don’t live in a totalitarian State. I’d like to think we won’t be overreacting to 9/11 and can continue to live in a civil State.
You talking on your cell phone while driving puts people at risk of serious injury or death, should you be shot for it?
Leon is believed to be a former Turkish national who became a Canadian citizen last year and changed his name from Yavuz Berke.
ROP practice run
yep, and that doesn't change my view that he was up to something more than the reported suicide attempt. (FNC is reporting that he left a note to his girlfriend).

I thought it was odd too that he was able to hitch a ride. But for the benefit of the doubt - Maybe things are different in that area (probably not, but I don’t live out there).
Darn. I didn’t try to change your view. I really don’t care what you think. You were wrong. ;0)
