It is with out a doubt that a majority of Americans believe “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1. Unfortunately, most who believe these words cannot answer the questions raised by the thousands of fossils that archeologist's have dug up and claim are millions of years old. ...

>>I will do no such thing. Your condescending attitude and mokery is clearly evident even on this thread .

I have been clear and not mocking at all. Your attempt to prove your “insult” comment is as solid as your OP. You’re busted — admit it.

And need I go back to YOUR OP and quote you about the “many scientists?” I didn’t post this, you did. It is YOUR assertion — prove it.

>>My question is — why should I care? What difference does it make? Personally, I think it is a trivial debate which has a tendency to draw in and distract well-meaning Christian

It depends? Do you want the next generation of Americans to taker a scientific back seat to India and China? And the generation after that to take a back seat to Somalia and Indonesia?

Teaching the idea that theology is somehow science — APPLICABLE science — goes well beyond the academic.

No cost at all involved in the link I gave you. Just a time cost to read it, and time to further research it. (unless you want to BUY a hard copy of course)

Look at the following chart and tell me which fail to meet your very layperson definition of "crossover":

Take a look at the bottom of the picture you posted and you'll see that it admits that no "crossover" fossil has ever been found.

It says: Common Ancestor

No fossils found yet, but scientists believe the human and ape lines diverged between 6 million and 4 millions years ago.

Acceptance or non-acceptance of the theory of evolution will have no affect whatsoever on the scientific status of American institutions or industry. In short — we’re not falling behind because of non-acceptance of evolution.

This particular theory is an extremely narrow sliver of scientific research, and opinions on it have no affect on the overall scientific prowess of the United States.

Well, lets start slow -- you admit there were species that predated humans? Basically, you admit the chart is correct?

Virtually all of life science progress — especially research, depends on an understanding of TToE.

You are wrong. The idea of a 6,000 year old earth cuts a swath across all life sciences. If accepted, it will eliminate the scientific research in all the Life Sciences in the US.

We are already falling far behind (and are becoming the laughingstock of the world) from our conflating theology and science. If your country isn’t respected in a scientific area, then you won’t be either.

If the trend continues, the USA will have no standing in world science.

"It depends? Do you want the next generation of Americans to taker a scientific back seat to India and China?"

There is no need to take "scientific" back seat to anyone.

Science WILL prove creation. Biology will progress as it has, because all it involves is learning the complexity of what was obviously created.

It's clear simply by the ordered complexity of a simple cell, the library of information it contains that it did NOT happen by accident, ONCE, never mind a billion times over against odds with zeros that stretch across the universe.

For some reason, however, you seem to think it involves a bible lesson. It does not. You seem to have some sort of mental block in your mind that prevents you from realizing that pursuing science with an open mind, will somehow make us take a "back seat to something.

I say persuing science which excludes anything that does not agree with evolution THEORY is what will put the next generation in the back seat.

Let me do the best I can at explaining why as a Christian it is of utmost importance to not believe in evolution.

For a Christian to believe in evolution is to not believe that death entered the world when Adam sinned. Paul specifically states that with sin death entered and until we believe that Christ died for our sins we are still lost in them and will eventually die the second death.

If death was around before Adam sinned then death did not enter with sin. Thus we do not need Christ to ever come death. God said it is good when he created. Evolution needs death decay and destruction to work. Where is the good in that.

My God is very big, he created the very laws of nature we live with. he could if he so pleases, and will someday change them again. That is because He is very BIG!

But I see you still don’t know what a Scientific Theory is.

Excuse me but the rest of the world is a Joke! Why would we care what they think? Since when does truth get trumped by emotions over what people think.

Get a grip of your logic.

That is something I had not thought of before. Very interesting and I wonder how many christians who believe in evolution have considered that.

Absolutely. There were animals on Earth before humans.

But before you get going, let me explain that I am not a Young Earth Creationist. I’m more of an Intelligent Design believer. I’ll even stipulate that humans may be descended from apes (evidence says its highly likely), but *something* happened at some point that gave some apes that spark of intelligence that led to humanity. The lack of fossil record says that it was sudden and following that divergence, apes did not continue to evolve, but humans did.

If the “sudden divergence” occurred in one ape that made him a proto-human, he still had to breed back with a non-human ape, which would have likely slowed the development of humans. But, even assuming that the human gene is dominant, the humanlike apes would have had to seek each other out to breed and eventually give birth to the first apelike humans.

How many times do you get to hit the Lotto on those kinds of odds, without some divine interaction?

God specifically states that death was not his doing.

"To be-- for this he created all. Death was not God's doing, he takes no pleasure in the extinction of the living. It was the devil's envy that brought death into the world." (Ws.1:12-15, 2:24)

When my mind’s eye reads the phrase “period of time” I change nothing. I may even ask one to look at the word “DAY”.
When we say “Day” do we mean 24 hours?
When we say “Day” do we mean those hours of DAYlight as opposed to those hours of darkness called night?
Day and Day..one word with two separate meanings, sometimes in the same sentence.
Word meanings DO change over time. Example in 2009
year 1959 Gay is someone who is a good happy soul.
year 2009 Gay is something completely different!!
Technically, a “day” IS a “period of time”

No it doesn't. You have more DNA in common with a snake than you do a monkey.
