EXCELLENT POINT! That’s exactly what I’ve tried to explain to Socialists for a very long time — it actually works, SOMETIMES, so I’ll share it again here in the hopes it may help someone in their conversations with neighbors and friends in the near future:
When a socialist says to you “Socialism/Communism just hasn’t been done “right” before”, bring up the fact that once you give the government the power that Socialism and Communism entail you no longer have a choice in who your ruler is. For instance, they may believe Barack is a good man, with excellent intentions, and one who is “smart enough” to do it right. HOWEVER, one must remind them that he will not live forever, and he is not immortal. Once the power is clear to see, human nature GUARANTEES that someone the people SHOULDN’T trust will seek to take that power for their own, and use the laws against the people, instead of FOR them.
I may not be expressing the above exactly as it should be, but I think everyone can get the gist of it. It really does work sometimes if you approach it from the point of view that we all want the same thing — safety, peace, prosperity, good health, etc... At the very least it gets them to think about the laws, and the system instead of the PERSON they are believing in. Most liberals (and others) get caught up in the Cult of Personality surrounding these Socialist candidates and forget that others (like a REPUBLICAN - GASP! LOL) could take over that position some day with all the power they’ve given away. They wouldn’t trust BUSH with that power, so we must not give it to ANY President...
You’d be surprised at the socialists’ — especially the idealistic college-age kids — reaction to this line of debate. Don’t bother with explaining why socialism doesn’t work. Concentrate on their belief that if only they had a trustworthy person it would be successful and get them to see that they can’t dictate who will hold that office... I’ve seen it stop people dead in their tracks with a look of horror on their faces when they come to the realization that you’re correct in what you’re saying. They usually end the debate at that point, and make excuses to flee. :)
Because too many Republicans have gotten the idea that we’re the party of big-government interference, just motivated by a different set of morals.

I think Obama and the Dems are trying to find that figure. All that damn spending and the stock market is rising. I guess those Obamazombies are investing in Dear Leader's economy.
Maybe we are going into a depression and maybe it's all that can save us. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy but it may be the only thing that will wake up America to REALITY, an economic consequence that will shock the intellectual pride of all these liberals, throwing away the best thing humanity's ever created.
Ethics are important because ignoring them causes chaos and all sorts of pain. 9/11 didn't change Americans' world view when it absolutely should have but so many people are so self-centered and unable to hate even a twisted ideology that caused the death of 300 of their fellow Americans.
Being American itself holds no meaning to so many punks of all ages that sit on their asses, entranced by the boob tube, totally unaware of how they've been blessed due to their American citizenship and brainwashed by public education to be open-minded and accepting at all costs or they could become Nazis, especially if they're white.
Minorities have been programmed to hate whites and whites have been programmed to cower and both have been taught to look down on America and words like liberty and freedom. Women have been taught to despise men and men have been taught to deny their aggressive tendencies and competitive nature. We are a nation being torn apart and Obama is here to see it through.
