Should President Obama have the power to shut down domestic Internet traffic during a state of emergency?
Senators John Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) think so. On Wednesday they introduced a bill to establish the Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor—an arm of the executive branch that would have vast power to monitor and control Internet traffic to protect against threats to critical cyber infrastructure. That broad power is rattling some civil libertarians.
The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (PDF) gives the president the ability to "declare a cybersecurity emergency" and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any "critical" information network "in the interest of national security." The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president.
The bill does not only add to the power of the president. It also grants the Secretary of Commerce "access to all relevant data concerning [critical] networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access." This means he or she can monitor or access any data on private or public networks without regard to privacy laws.

The Tea Parties might be a start to get some visibility — assuming the MSM will even mention them which, I expect, they won’t.
But, even though they’re cute and will make participants feel some camaradarie with other like-minded people, they don’t accomplish anything powerful. This is serious sh!t happening; what can we DO?
My friend says she’s resigned herself that all of this is simply fulfillment of prophecy, and we might as well go with the flow.
I still think the main reason they are throwing stuff like this out there is to distract our attention away from his real mission which is the overall attack on capitalism and how he is breaking the bank in so many ways from budget to stimulus to an endless array of spending which is all designed to radically change captialism and thus advance us once again to socialism if not Communism.

That's really part of the design of the net, distributed, and redundant. Why have every PC in the world that wants to access the site, all funnel into a server in VA, MD or MA? Response times will take a hit, and server load increases.

Yeah they will go after everything you listed but a lot of it is just diversion. If they take our minds off just how much money they are printing they think they can get away with it.
Their immediate goal is to destroy free market capitalism. We need to keep that in mind.
If they are successfully in killing off business at all levels in the country and force people to come to the govt. for everything we are royally screwed.

They are trying it by crazy spending,trillions instead of billions at a time. There is no end to the spending they will try if they are allowed,no amount is too high no request too bizarre.
