Robert Millet Chosen as Next Apostle [LDS/Mormon OPEN thread]
MRM Blog ^ | April 1, 2009 | Aaron Shafovaloff

Posted on 04/01/2009 1:16:24 PM PDT by Alex Murphy

Multiple sources from within the COB have confirmed that Robert L. Millet has been chosen by President Monson to fill the recent vacancy in the Quorum of the Twelve. At one level, this move comes as a surprise since those with previous experience as a General Authority are usually chosen.

Along with the apostolic appointment comes the news that the Miracle of Forgiveness will be removed from the Church’s downtown museum display on Spencer W. Kimball, and that all traditional interpretations of 2 Nephi 25:23 will be removed from prior Conference Reports. Sources say that Packer, Nelson, and Oaks, have issued an official apology for not publicly conceding to the doctrinal wisdom of Millet sooner. The apology recognizes that Millet’s already-possessed implicit apostolic authority at BYU has more bearing than decades of explicit apostolic teachings from the pulpit of General Conference, and that Millet was right in this case to reject the consistent counsel of inspired leaders.

Robert D. Hales will be giving a Conference talk formally reversing his recent teaching that we are all sent here to “merit eternal life”, deferring to Millet on the issue, who will give a subsequent talk promoting Stephen Robinson’s book, Believing Christ, which will replace the Miracle of Forgiveness at Church distribution centers. Monson is reportedly excited to have someone on the Quorum who actually thinks at length about doctrine.

Also from these same sources is the word that the First Presidency will be forming a new committee in charge of reconstructing Mormon doctrine all over again. Spearheading the effort will be Blake Ostler, whose correction of Neal Maxwell over the issue of whether God is outside of time earned him respect with the entire Quorum of the Twelve, all of whom admitted to being too busy tending to matters of administration to deal with matters of specific doctrine, relying on more intelligent and inspired lawyers and professors like Ostler and Millet.

Stay tuned for more details. The Salt Lake Tribune momentarily had an article about the news here, but abruptly took it down.

What a coward you are Alex Murphy. That was an implicit threat against another Freeper.

Be not wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

Please don’t mind read or speak for me I really appreciate Robert millet

Those who post negatives remember what the scripture said

Isa. 5: 20

20 ¶ Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel

You KNOW I didn't MINDREAD you.

You used to complain all the time about the shortened version.

22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

D&C 89:7 And, again, strong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.

Isa. 5: 20

Nice one there, buddy!

You might even convince those that don't know any better that y'all actually believe the Old and New Testament!

Why are you using the least reliable scripture to try and make a point, when you have a pearl of great price to drop on us unbelieving gentiles?

I'll see your Isaiah and raise you Galations 1:8.

Go ahead and look up it, if you dare...

I’ll see your Isaiah and raise you Galations 1:8.

There was and are more than one angel, some here can’t seem to think out of a wet paper bag,(mean no disrepect just that it seems critical thinking is a lost art!) automatic it must be angel Moroni...

well it isn’t!

If you understood Galatians 1:8 it was relative to those in around 33 AD during that time when Paul was alerted by the Lord how His Gospel was being perverted.

So think of what is being said here Jesus is declaring that his Gospel is being perverted

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

This sort of puts a big hole in the Inerrancy and infallible of the Bible when the Lord Himself makes know these kinds of things do happen on earth, just as Moses did not have any records from the start of man journey on earth with the Lord until the time of Moses.

That is why the first 5 books of the Moses is a recap of events and also those warning of do not add or remove from those individual manuscripts.

So much for the timeless Word of God... At least you have conceeded the point -- Christian Scripture in your view is not inerrant. So your citing of Isaiah maks you as being a hypocritie. C'mon, man -- bust us out some "infallible" doctrines & covenants to put us gentiles in our place.

And I have no doubt that there was more than one "angel" and more than one false prophet -- Muhammed invoked the name of Gabriel to pervert the identity of Jesus and Joey invoked moron to pervert the name above all names in his own "special" way.

Both perversions are paths to hell.

I really do not need to resort to such wrath as you have tried to lay upon me the scriptures speak for themselves to warn the people to always tried the spirit if they are of God or not

1 Jn. 4: 1
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

and to search the scriptures

John 5: 39
39 ¶ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Acts 17: 11
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

I can never understand this demeanor that so many have have displayed when responding a discussion.

When the natural man speaks than the Lord is NOT in the conversation.

I know the spirit of the is in the Bible and I am thankful for the Lord to also counsel me to study, pray and ponder so the Holy Spirit is able to help me to discern what is of the Lord.

Gal 1

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

Here in Gal 1:6-7, Jesus has made known that in the corporal state where we all reside the free agnecy of man can keep the word of the Lord or even distort, delete or even omit and it is our responsiblity to know the differents.

Even the first diologue in the Genesis Satan told a half truth so from the beganning man must always pray ponder to know what is of the Lord.

In all due respect!

"6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!!"

I guess Joey never got to that part of the "unrelieable, non-innerrant, and relative" Bible.
Or this one a little earlier...

"18I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— 19by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ."

Of course, now you'll tell me some kind of nonsense about Paul's comment in Romans really meaning he was preaching the Gospel that he knew at the time, but that God had more to say...

Go ahead, spout one of the cult's talking points about God having something more to say. I would be really careful if I were you should you continue quoting Christian scripture about belief in spirits and false prophets. My faith does'nt involve "personages" appearing to a proven liar and pervert, while presenting comic book like tales on golden plates that are nowhere to be found.

What about the fact that evil is had for good and good for evil... don’t you think there is a slight possibility that Mormon’s have it right... and that time/history has perverted and confused things?...

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 132

51–57, Emma Smith is counseled (commanded) to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

51 Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to aprove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.
52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, areceive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God.
53 For I am the Lord thy God, and ye shall obey my voice; and I give unto my servant Joseph that he shall be made ruler over many things; for he hath been afaithful over a few things, and from henceforth I will strengthen him.
54 And I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and acleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else. But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be bdestroyed, saith the Lord; for I am the Lord thy God, and will destroy her if she abide not in my law.
55 But if she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an ahundredfold in this world, of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, houses and lands, wives and children, and crowns of beternal lives in the eternal worlds.
56 And again, verily I say, let mine handmaid aforgive my servant Joseph his trespasses; and then shall she be forgiven her trespasses, wherein she has trespassed against me; and I, the Lord thy God, will bless her, and multiply her, and make her heart to brejoice.

Whatever HAPPENED to Emma???

Eliza was a devout Mormon.
At age 38, she became Joseph Smith's 14th plural wife (in addition to Smith's lawful wife, Emma).
In 1842, after learning Eliza was pregnant, Emma Smith beat Eliza with a broomstick and
knocked her down a flight of stairs, causing Eliza to miscarry Smith's baby.

Wow!!

I guess ol' Emma got VAPORIZED by GOD!!!

We know that multiply him thing sure didn't work out!
