OTTAWA The Fox News television host who mocked Canadian troops in Afghanistan has apologized for what he says was a satire.
"The March 17th episode of Red Eye included a segment discussing Canada's plan for a 'synchronized break,' which was in no way an attempt to make light of troop efforts," Greg Gutfeld, host of the segment, told the Canwest News Service on Monday in an e-mailed statement.
"However, I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize. Red Eye is a satirical take on the news, in which all topics are addressed in a lighthearted, humourous and ridiculous manner."

Red Eye airs weekdays at 3 a.m. on the Fox Network, which is accused of a strong right-wing bias in the U.S.

We are immensely grateful for the contributions and sacrifices of the Canadian military.
Every death feels like one of our own.

Sometimes we cover the french fries in gravy and cheese curds and call it "poutine".
The name comes from a remark by a chef when the concoction was first ordered by a custoer:
"... ça va faire une maudite poutine" (It will make a damned mess.)

He was making fun of the Canuk Army saying they need a year off. There is no Army in the world, that I know of gets a "king's X". The problem is they are socialists that rely on the US for protection. If they had a real military, they could protect their own country. As it is, they are just a couple of companies that are attached to the US. They are brave, capable soldiers. But their country won't back them with support.
Gutfeld was just making fun of the fact that they are all alone in a socialist wasteland. The Army loses a few Hummers and some equipment, and they are done until the budget deems it necessary to re equip them. That is the joke, not the soldiers bravery.
I think he should apologize when the Canuk's apologize for hiding our cowards and calling them hero's.

Their brave troops are fighting and dying along side ours in Afghanistan fighting terrorists. For that they should be thanked and not ridiculed.
Damn right. Thank You, Canada, for standing in there with us.

Did anyone think they'd see the day when Red Eye showed more class than the president? Compare the sincerity of Greg's apology for telling an off-color joke to Obama's apology for telling a similar, arguably worse one, and much closer to the watershed, especially considering that off-color jokes are pretty much the entire raison d'être of Red Eye ("If intelligence were sandals, I'd slip into her on the beach"). And also considering that Greg is infinitely funnier than Obama. Forget the offensiveness, Obama owes us an apology just for his profound unfunniness.

Common decency in a news-show host whod have thought it?
It’s actually a comic take on the news, and Greg Gutfeld is a staunch conservative who hosts a humorous late night show. It’s a fun, irreverent look at the world. His apology was typical of him, he is basically a very decent guy.

Nope, but now that you point it out, I see it. Perhaps the Fox folks should find at least one, AT LEAST ONE, reporter/commentator who has served in uniform.

God Bless You and Canada.
When I was a kid I had a hockey patch that was the Canadian flag pre-1967 and the American flag.
I was asked many times about the “union jack” in the flag.
Why no maple leaf?
I always told them what Thomas Jefferson said: "On matters of principle, stand as a rock. On matters of fashion follow the flow of the river."

Mmmm. Poutine!
Also, french fries covered in white vinegar and salt at K-Mart in the late 70’s.
OR, covered in Ketchup and K-Mart gravy.
Now I'm hungry. ;-)

But their country won't back them with support.Really. When I see American dead being returned via a highway lined with American citizens , waving American flags , standing in ditches , on hillsides and on over pass bridges , at attention and at ease . With nothing but respect in their hearts . Strangers, ordinary citizens crying . When vehicles pull over and stop as the dead pass. When the American dead are treated as the fallen are in Canada .
Then I might even consider you have a clue.

Americans line the streets for their heroes as well.
I've seen the threads.
The point is that FREEPERS, of all people, should not be attacking their allies like this.
Unfortunately, some, who consider themselves to be FReepers, go out of their way to denigrate us.
Like we said before.....Jerks are everywhere.
