Help me out here folks Could he really be this stupid????

Now Obama has insulted French President Sarkozy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh no! Obama sent a letter to Chirac, saying he looks forward to working with him the next four years. Le Figaro, French newspaper is horrified at the faux pas. Doesn't Obama ever consult his staff before acting? Sarkozy is the President there! It's like Sarko writing to George Bush and saying he looks forward to working with him. Chirac is the FORMER president.

Here is a translation of the letter in Le Figaro:

Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.

Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.

Strangely, we have just learnt this surprising piece of news :

Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years ! In a letter described by Chirac as "very nice," Obama wrote, "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world." The use of the word "peace" was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed.

This revelation was made by the online edition of the daily Le Figaro on Thursday.

Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

So, if I understand well, Mister O., who has already despised Gordon Brown, behaving with him as if he did not know he is Prime Minister of Britain, does not even know the name of the French president.

I wonder if someone had told him, when he came to France last summer, that the man he met was NOT Jacques Chirac !

In any case, for Sarko, the blow must be terrible : he has tried to persuade Obama to invite him in Washington for months, and now he learns that his predecessor might soon be Obama's guest at the White House before him ! http://europumas.over-blog.com/article-29271371.html edited to add the original french article: http://www.lefigaro.fr/actualites/20...es-chirac-.php

Anyone else find it interesting that B.O. is strategically insulting our Allies, while getting cozy with the Middle Eastern nations?

I posted a translation at post 116. I don’t think Bambi believes that Chirac is still president; I think he is purposely ignoring Sarkozy, who is conservative by French standards, and addressing Chirac because he and Bambi shared the same opinions on Iraq.

That was my take on it.

>>I wonder what Hillary thinks about of all this ?
After all she is the one who will be having to deal with the screwups<<

Good thing she is used to dealing with sniper fire when she lands in battle zones eh?

>>It’s obvious the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.<<

I think Obama is just so elated to be in office that he has both hands wrapped firmly around his @#&*!

He can’t let himself go to take a minute and figure out what he is supposed to be doing.

If this is real I have to give Obama a pass on this one.

Insulting the French...even by accident is funny.

I thought it was a hoax, but having seen the brief text, I now believe that Bambi did send it to Chirac, although not because he thought Chirac was still president. He’s just saying he wants to work with Chirac in the cause of peace, yadda, yadda, and completely ignore the current president. Obama did this to insult Sarkozy, who is (by French standards) a conservative.

I agree in part. He may not have meant to insult Sarkozy, but I doubt he cares. He's above all that. He wanted to draw himself closer to Chirac's way and view of the world. He and his administration are too clueless to realize how insulting this is to the current French president and too egocentric to realize how clueless it makes Obama look.

That’s what I was thinking. It’s how leftists operate.

Obama got the same level of slobbering love from Europe and their press during his campaign. They wanted this clueless muslim marxist to be the US president, well, now he is. So reap what you sow Europe.

Please tell me this is some bazaar mistake. How in the heck can Obama NOT know who Sarkozy is? It is impossible to be that ignorant......

If this is true, please send this to Drudge. Obama deserves to have his ass handed to him, if true.

What is being done — by individual Republican-leaning states — to make sure they can’t “pledge” their state electoral votes in 2012... WITHOUT seeing a valid vault-copy birth certificate?

We didn’t have time to build that roadblock for 2008, but we have time to build it before 2012.

Anybody working on this, and how can we help?

Um, I can read French and from the comments and all, it appears Obama correctly responded to a letter from Chirac at Chirac’s foundation. Neither he nor the White House thinks Chirac is still president.

Which begs the question: maybe he really did intend to send that letter to Chirac?

Indeed he did, and sent it properly to the Chirac Foundation.

While Obama is good at gaffes and insulting foreign leaders, he did not do so at this time, unless it offends Sarko that our liberal Pres is in communicado with his predecessor, though there must be amble precedent on both sides of the Atlantic for this.

This commenter says: In fact, Obama responded to a letter Chirac had addressed to him in the name of his Chirac Foundation for Peace and the Environment. This was not, in any case, an expression of disdain from Obama to Sarkozy. It's a shame that the article did not specify the actual context of this letter.

In other words, there is no faux pas here, nothing to see, everyone, move along.

Thank you Yaelle. It's important to get the facts right. Obama has had way too many gaffes already.

All, see post #298. Thanks.

Le Monde is the mouthpiece (porte parole) of the Socialist Party.

The article is about Sarko’s decision to return France to NATO (OTAN). It has nothing to do with the Chirac/Obama story.
