'Obama is overwhelmed.' (Obama ally says he's "too tired")
National Review ^ | Sunday, March 08, 2009 | Jim Geraghty

Perhaps it's just some Obama ally speaking out of school. But these are probably some of the most terrifying words to come from an unidentified source in some time:

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

The American source said: "Obama is overwhelmed. There is a zero sum tension between his ability to attend to the economic issues and his ability to be a proactive sculptor of the national security agenda.

"That was the gamble these guys made at the front end of this presidency and I think they're finding it a hard thing to do everything."

It's at moments like this I'm reminded of this assessment of Obama, back in 2007: "I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."

That assessment came from . . . Vice President Joe Biden.

News reports today point out that President Obama is going a little gray at the temples. Is it the stress of the job, or is he due to go gray about now anyway?

Or is a calculated attempt to look more distinguished?

I agree. And the ridicule continued for eight years—the media yelling to the rest of the world that our president was evil and stupid. Just think how “tired” Obama would be if he had to listen to that all day every day. Instead of focusing like a laser on the economy, he has spent his first six weeks pushing a pork bill which pays off his Dem constituents, proposing an ear-marked laden budget, nationalizing the health care system, etc. And no outcry from the media, no talk show host jokes, no SNL skits......

Seriously, I am extremely disappointed this unqualified man is president. However, he asked for the job and got it. To do his job, he needs to PRIORITIZE! He can’t remake the entire country in two months, which is what he’s trying to do. I don’t think he’s lazy. He’s overwhelmed because he is completely unprepared and unqualified for the job.

This really is a terrifying story. The man needs prayers that he would seek God’s will and follow that. So far he has been on a tear in exactly the opposite direction, because I do NOT think it is God’s will that the US go down. (Unless Armageddon is upon us. What do I know, after all?)

God help us. Pray for our country.

I’m searching my memory, but can’t think of it once being said that George W. Bush was too tired to be president.

in a nervous hospital with all the other men named ‘Napoleon'

Quite fitting, I'd say: Napoleon XIV and Malcolm XI !

Do not fret. If Obama isn’t up to the job - and imo he isn’t - the American People are. We’ve survived much worse and will survive this too.

Obama will be cast upon the ashbin of history along with other failures - Jimmy Carter, LBJ, etc.

And he can’t vote “present” either. In over his head, and intellectually lazy. What a combination.

How about a little sympathy here? Poor little Barack is in over his head. He's actually expected to do something instead of giving speeches promising to do something. He's got no experience to draw on at all, but we're expecting him to do a job that's way above his paygrade. It's so unfair!

Let's pray for Barack to reform and turn into a decent human being who values freedom over imposed equality, and as a second step let's pray for him to grow a backbone if he acquires values first.

The frightening part is that he's overwhelmed now even without any international or military crises (and I don't count Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan because he's on autopilot and giving orders to keep following Bush's orders in those areas). I don't like imagining how the Community Organizer will handle things when he has to make the plan for a real international crisis, but I imagine there are a couple dozen leaders of our enemies hoping to be first in line to test The One.

That’s what happens when you think someone else is always going to do your job for you. Sorry, Obie, you fail yet again, but this time you’re taking my country down the tubes with you.

[I fully agree with you. I am just voicing what I learned when I first took on higher level executive tasks. He obviously lacks experience and capacity. In my estimation, he hasn’t even passed through the supervisor or managerial precursor steps to being able to handle higher executive tasks. This is a very painful metamorphasis for him and the country.]

Oh yeah. When you have your own business to run, or run someone elses business, if you don’t have a process to move work down the conveyor to others, and especially a way to deal with surge stress peaks in yourself, you are headed for a collapse.

[Perhaps voters will begin to recognize why Sarah Palin was fully more prepared than the lot of them for an Executive role.]

Heck, a manager at MickeyD’s may be more qualified to delegate and prioritize crises.
