RALEIGH Sen. Larry Shaw of Fayetteville has been elected chairman of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Shaw, a Democrat, has served on the organizations board for three years.
He described the council, known as CAIR, as a civil rights organization. Shaw said he looks forward to partnering with President Obamas administration to protect civil liberties and help improve Americas international image.
We just want to work with them to foster better understanding and mutual accommodating, Shaw said.
The council is active on other issues, he said, such as sensitivity training with law enforcement and the efforts to bring peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors.
According to the news release, the nonprofit council is Americas largest Muslim civil liberties group, with 35 offices and chapters in the United States and Canada. It says it seeks to enhance understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
Only with a name like Shaw would a guy like that get elected in Fayetteville of all places.
closet muslim?
Nope, he’s openly Muslim.
What no Muslim name? wow what makes him special?
He’s a Democrat? Whodathunkit?
Probably the reason they picked him, to be the friendly American face of CAIR.
The only people who will be fooled, are the dems and lapdogs.
The complaints relate to a sermon and a lecture by Sheikh al-Qaradawi in which he described the Holocaust as a divine punishment and prayed to Allah to kill Jews down to the very last one.[zTruth: 'CAIR officials travel to Saudi Arabia, including N.C. state senator, Larry Shaw'; MEMRI: 'Reactions to Sheikh Al-Qaradhawi's Fatwa Calling for the Abduction and Killing of American Civilians in Iraq'; Times-Online UK: 'MPs condemn hate sermons on Arabic TV station al-Jazeera']
The last punishment was carried out by Hitler, Sheikh al-Qaradawi, 82, said. This was divine punishment for them. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers.
We look forward to partnering with the Obama administration to help defend civil liberties and to project to the world the best of our nations universal, constitutional and pluralistic values of freedom and justice.[OfficialWire: 'CAIR Elects N.C. State Senator Larry Shaw As Board Chair']
The 21st district includes downtown Fayetteville and runs north along Ramsey street and out Raeford road. As a whole, mostly minority and solid blue excepting some red pockets.
Thanks for the ping, Mitchell. I’m beginning to feel surrounded here in Raleigh. We have Rep Price over in Chapel Hill - a noted pal of the Muslim Brotherhood and now this dweeb just south of us. It’s discomforting...

How does this guy get in with such a large military vote in the area?
Sen. Larry Shaw of Fayetteville has been elected chairman of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.Hey, if the money's right...
If you'd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Our nation does not have “pluralistic values of freedom and justice”, we only have American values of freedom and justice.
I don’t know the area well, but I’m lead to believe it’s the typical Dem-dominated urban area. I don’t think many military folks live within the city.
Is it me or does this just scream CONFLICT OF INTERESTS?
Not in today’s multicultural America.
On the other hand... Democrat. Islamist apologist... Certainly no conflict there!
