NC's 21st Senate District is represented by Larry Shaw (D).

Shaw has previously served on the board of CAIR for three years.

In June 2008, Larry Shaw traveled to Saudi Arabia to attend a conference organized by King Abdullah. Also in attendance were prominent Muslim apologists, including CAIR co-founder Nihad Awad, and the Muslim Brotherhood's Yusef Qaradawi, who is banned from the US and the UK, and who MEMRI claims has issued a fatwa calling for the death and abduction of Americans in Iraq. Just last month, Qaradawi preached a sermon on the Al-Jazeera network that described the Holocaust a "divine punishment":

The complaints relate to a sermon and a lecture by Sheikh al-Qaradawi in which he described the Holocaust as a “divine punishment” and prayed to Allah to kill Jews “down to the very last one”.

“The last punishment was carried out by Hitler,” Sheikh al-Qaradawi, 82, said. “This was divine punishment for them. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers.”

Larry Shaw, in a statement made in a press release issued by CAIR announcing Shaw's new position:
