“From the article?”
“Though DeMints measure stands a strong chance of ultimately failing?”

according to Fox News while they were interviewing Demint, there were only 4 voting “nay”...

I think it better to have the issue up for debate. It tends to energize our side.

If they ban the fairness doctrine only to implement localism, we conservatives are screwed.

Exactly. They will get the Fairness Doctrine through backdoor means.

Durbin’s backdoor “ownership quota” bill passed 57-41 on a straight party line vote a couple of hours ago.

Will it make a difference really? I’m not sure. If the change to our present existence of talk radio is going to come about by local standards, can those “local standards” wiping out national talk radio occur whether the fairness doctrine is prevented here or not? I’m just not familiar enough will all this to know.

I agree. The more the issue is aired, the better, regardless of what it is called. Most people are genuinely in favor of free speech in this country. At least for now.

This is about much more than socialism. Curtailing First Amendment freedoms opens the path to totalitariansim and fascism.

Let me clarify what the Senate did.
The Senate voted 87-11 in favor of an amendment to the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act (the bill which would treat DC as a State in the House of Representatives). That amendment was proposed by Sen. DeMint and prohibits the Obama Administration bringing back the Fairness Doctrine. The Senate also passed an amendment, proposed by Sen. Durbin, which encourages radio ownership "diversity."

This is a bill BANNING the Fairness Doctrine. No it's just political cover for the Dems who then turned around and passed Durbin's amendment to achieve the same effect as the FD using regulatory means.

They can afford to ban a specific if they get to institute a new, broad generality that ends up in the same censorship place.
