OK, third time through... he did say weeks and I had missed that.
Maybe you have additional information but I’m just not hearing anything non-conservative from him - a pleasant change, actually, from a senator who just sold us out on a trillion dollar liberal boondoggle.
First of all, I resent having to pay into it, I resent having to do the tax match each time I do payroll. We pay for our own health care and what they don’t cover we pay for. If they leave private doctors and health care alone, fine. They try to socialize our entire health care in this country, I can’t tell you how unacceptable this will be to me. Totally UNACCEPTABLE!
So since we have no choice but to pay into it, as does everyone else, why should those people who did so their entire life and can’t afford insurance when they are elderly, be denied treatment. I’m not talking about someone that is in a permanent comatose state with no chance of survival.
The scariest part is when he pushes living wills. A living will is a false hope that you and your family will have the final say in your medical treatment. Not so! It won’t stop the government doctors from making the final decision.
What are you going to do about it, sue them?

What’s he care? The elite political class have their own health care.
You’ll never find them in line for surgery with the rest of us. You know - - us taxpayers.
That old has-been Spector could off himself. It may not solve the problem as he sees it, but at least he wouldn’t care about it anymore. And woe to any cause in which Benedict Smegma takes an interest.
Under his scenario, he wouldhave been consigned to a "wait" bin and pumped full of drugs while he timed out.
It is a sign of his malignant narcissism that he considers himself so elite that he would be excluded from this.
But elected officials, the elite among us, are entitled to live as long as they wish. Even beyond their use, like Arlen Spector.
Theorectically, I agree.
But when it’s your mom lying there and you are desperate for a reprieve at the last second... praying some doctor will pull a “House” and come up with something to save her at the last second... anyway, you don’t just let them die.
And if it is you, you certainly aren’t going to say “Man, I know being hooked up to this medicine that might not do me any good is costing a lot of money, how about pulling the plug, ok?”
Medicare is an insurance - one that is mandatory and poorly designed so that only those who are most likely to be very sick sign up, but an insurance. It’s wrong to say that people who use Medicare for their health care expect the government or other people to pay for their medical care. They were made a promise and crippled so that they can’t make any other choice other than to expect the government to make good on the insurance they’ve paid for - at the threat of guns and prisons if they didn’t chip in.
The socialism is the forced enrollment, the diversion of funds that could have been invested and saved - and owned - by the individual earning it. This is true of Social Security as well as Medicare. The ultimate forced dependency on government.
The government makes the rules, and it has turned out that the government is paying these bills, but it didn’t start out that way.
If Congress had kept its hands off the Medicare tax funds from the beginning, the money would have been there for the rest of us. Of course, Social Security and Medicare was taxes were a slush fund that Congress just had to spend - on that “basic health care for children,” for example — rather than save.
The laws have been written so that people who turn 65 are kicked out of their plans and virtually forced into Medicare. At the best, any other insurance from continuing work or a pension becomes a way to pay the copays and extras. At the worst, everyone who gives medical care must treat them and charge them as though they are on Medicare.
Were going to have to put lifetime caps on Medicare spending...there is no other way around the problem.
i hope that we also put caps on neonatal care. We are keeping alive many preemies that become lifetime financial burdens
In a crisis extraordinary resources are used. Whether a fire, a war, a car crash, a plane landing on the Potomac, or a heart attack, the expense during a crisis is higher than normal.
Let's stop rescuing planes that land on rivers. Can you imagine the expense of all those resources!
Neither do I and I do not have to be 70 to make that declaration. However, wonder how much it cost US taxpayers for Specter's medical care. Spector is much like the Animal Farm more equal than the rest of the animal kingdom. He should rescues himself from the whole health care debate, since he already got his medical extension. Lawyers always make the simple complicated for self serving purposes.
Let him go feed on the green grass the rest of his days.
Thank you for posting that because I doubt that many people know that if they haven't turned 65 yet--and therefore haven't yet been told they are on Medicare whether they want it or not.
Never mind that they had private insurance as part of the CONTRACT with their former employers. Suddenly, they are no longer covered by their private contract. Now they are covered by the government and therefore DEPENDENT on the government and most didn't even know it was coming.
Sounds like a PLAN to me and one that worked very successfully for the commies in government...

The problem with ‘living wills’ is in the wording though, so they need to have various living wills and not a one size fits all!
When my mom was undergoing cancer treatment in 2007, we took her off of the ‘living will’ code when she went in to the hospital with complications from treatment. She had a cancer in her throat..it was swelling and if we had allowed that living will to stay, had her throat closed completely up due to treatment, they would not have resuscitated her.
She is alive and cancer free right now.
I hate politicians trying to tell the rest of us what is right and wrong when it comes to our own family and healthcare!

BINGO! See my post #39 for a real life short story. Living Wills are dangerous imho. If you have one, they will not resuscitate you.. period. Even if you are only choking on your hospital food...LOL
