One thing he is looking for is a strong governor or two.

States need to stop putting their hands out to the federal government and start pushing it away, DeMint figures -- and maybe start questioning some of the modern dogma that says the feds can prevent offshore drilling, or withhold gas tax money or inject themselves as much as they want in education, health care and other issues.

Don't hold your breath.

The sad fact is, the people who understand American freedom can't rely on their leaders anymore.

"Really, I think the hope right now is not in Congress to make the right decision, cause they're not," DeMint says. "It's just whether or not the American people are going to stand up and say enough is enough.

"People don't need to look to Washington. It's the people's government. And the people are going to have to take it back. They can do it with their voices and with their votes -- and they may have to do it with their legs. People are going to have to show that they're not going to take it anymore."

By "legs," he means what you think he does.

Demonstrations.

Noting the tactics of left-wing organizations such as Code Pink, which like to send handfuls of noisy people to a lawmaker's office, DeMint suggests such things do get the attention of congressmen and senators.

"I think some of these folks might think twice if they had several hundred people standing outside one of their state offices asking, 'What in the world are you thinking?' "

If that doesn't work, there's plenty of room on the boulevard.

From the Sunday, February 22, 2009 edition of the Augusta Chronicle
I really like Jim DeMint.

He thinks like us.

We could stack the senate with Jim Demints if we focused on PRIMARIES, PRIMARIES, PRIMARIES. we should campaign for primaries like they were presidential elections.

I agree that it is time to hit the streets.

Has anyone started a tea party ping list?

Like him or not (and most Freepers did not) but ROSS PEROT led a LOT of people to the streets with his Reform Party and people power. Mass demonstrations all over the place. It really shook up both the Dems and Republicans, the political establishment.

We need such a thing and I mean QUICK before they have us all working in the Salt Mines.

If you want large-scale protests, we need the model of the famous Solidarity movement to build upon.

Do be aware, however, that the potential for lives to be lost will be very high, but such sacrifice is very necessary to finally convince convince one President Obama the folly of his ways and institute the type of REAL change that will avoid a repeat of the 1930's.

Normal people don’t often take to the streets. When they do, the media ignore it. The police look for trouble, under orders of corrupt leftist administrations, and arrest innocent people under trumped-up charges.

"Instead, DeMint is looking to the people -- where he still sees a "remnant" of freedom-loving still stirring.

Only a remnant?

"That's all it is," he concludes. "But that's all it takes."

Thanks for this post Syncro. Downloading to file so it won't be difficult to find for reference, and emailing it on to many in the ol' add'y book. DeMint expresses exactly how we think here at the RQSR.

That Norman Thomas quote sends a shiver down my spine. Liberalism is socialism, and it is just too sad that so many others do not realize it -- or worse, do realize it but think that socialism is a good thing. (I've heard people say, "Hey, it works for a bunch of European countries; they are doing just fine, so...")

So...I do think it might be time to get out and demonstrate. America is sinking fast. Thank goodness that there are still people like DeMint around to sound the alarm.

These people talk freedom, liberty, limited government, constitutionalism, and federalism when they are out of power....but when they get in power they do nothing and act like scared rabbits.

Some of them just spout the words.

I do think some of them believe it, but are so cowed by fear of the media that when they get in power they just hunker down and try not to make waves.

This is not new, it has been going on for decades. Liberals get power and ratchet a few more clicks....then they lose power...but the clicks are not reversed.

Why should I trust this type of talk now?

If we are going to ‘hit the streets’, as Sen DeMint suggests is necessary to take our freedom back, then now might be a good time to let him know we are behind him. Where he leads we will follow.

Someone has got to get the ball rolling.

DeMint is correct, of course. From his observations as to the present day feckless republican party, to the selfish, small-minded and dumbed-down mind-sets of most elected officials.

What would be outstanding is for a bunch of true conservative officials...DeMint, Palin, Pence and others to organize and lead the movement for the demonstrations and rebellion. And quickly.

I am ready to take to the streets.

I’ve said we need a national figure to lead the charge, if this is it..fine, I think he gets it. He understands.
