Senator Gregg Statement on His Withdrawal for Consideration of U.S. Commerce Secretary
Sen. Gregg stated, I want to thank the President for nominating me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This was a great honor, and I had felt that I could bring some views and ideas that would assist him in governing during this difficult time. I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle.
However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.
Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.
I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.
As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President´s proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.
Kathy and I also want to specifically thank Governor Lynch and Bonnie Newman for their friendship and assistance during this period. In addition we wish to thank all the people, especially in New Hampshire, who have been so kind and generous in their supportive comments.
As a further matter of clarification, nothing about the vetting process played any role in this decision. I will continue to represent the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.
Gregg said on Fox “I am a fiscal conservative...a strong one.”
At least he had the pebbles to use the word.
Yee-ha!
Perhaps you’re right...
I never understood why he took it in the first place either. I guess he took Obama at his word that he would engage in “new politics” and be bipartisan.
My guess is that Gregg didn’t like what he saw once he got inside Obamaland. Once he saw the Alinsky-style Chicago politics at play, he decided he’d be better staying on his own team. Clearly, Obama was playing Gregg and the Republicans for fools, here, and I’m glad that he wised up.
I agree completely, and would only add that Hannity and Ingraham weren't the only so-called conservative commentators doing that.
Wrong. Both parties are corrupt. It's just that the Democrats are corrupt and evil. The Republicans are corrupt and stupid.
I’m sending Gregg a Pajama-Gram!
CBS described Gregg as, “Wierd.” along with other comments that indicated he was not “vetted” properly by Obama.
Agreed. Let's see if this actaully was some clever insider's play by the Pubbies to add more fuel to the fire of Obama's non-existent proof of bipartisanship while getting a brief insiders view of how they operate...and betray.
Does Gregg pulling out give Snowe and Collins the cover they need to switch positions on PORCULUS? Gregg is a Republican senator from a neighboring state. They could easily now say: “Like Senator Gregg, we tried our best to work with the new administration in a bi-partisan way, but it’s become apparent that Obama administration and the current Congressional leadership have no interest in compromise or fairness.”
Perhaps I’m hoping too much.
True, but those two were the worst, IMHO (putting aside Savage who, well, is what he is). So sad too. Loss of control in 2006 was by a total of 80,000 votes out of 30 million. But for that, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac may have been reigned in, among other things. *sigh*
OMG! Did Judd Gregg finally grow a pair? Can Specter be far behind? (I’m not holding my breath.) And, of course, no chance for Snow & Collins there - but the reason isn’t due to biology , believe me!
“Wow. I guess Gregg decided that he couldn’t prostitute himself in this fashion.”
Yeah, Gregg draws the line at Obama not wanting to use a condom. If he’s gonna get bent over, he want some protection from STDs(socialisticly transmitted diseases).
bttt
I wish ... Snowe and Collins and die hard wimps and appeasers.
Maybe he accepted so he could withdraw...a plan to REALLY embarass the Bamster and take a very public stand against his policies!
My fiendish thought...but a delightful one.
Third person that has withdrawn??

Or are there more?
What’s he saying. Saving up money for a new TV.
You forgot Kilifer.

Too bad Hillary did not decide to resign.
