Nancy Pelosi had heard enough, thank you very much, after two enraged House Democrats rose at Tuesdays caucus meeting to bitterly denounce the Senates take-it-or-leave-it offer on the stimulus.
It wasnt because Pelosi wasnt ticked off herself quite the opposite.
At a certain point, after a couple of members had expressed themselves, she asked that future speakers not address that issue because it was reminding her how angry she was, said Rep. Anthony D. Weiner (D-N.Y.), who was in the room.
When Pelosi emerged from behind closed doors a few minutes later to address the press, she wore the broadest possible smile on her face. But her words expressed the grimmest possible resolve, as she girded for a conference committee battle on the stimulus destined to yield, at best, partial victory.
Usually you go to conference and split the difference between the two houses that may not be the case here, Pelosi said. At these conferences, my experience has been that the White House has a seat at the table that they weigh in.
Both Obama and Pelosi are hoping to restore significant stimulus spending eliminated by the Senate, especially $21 billion in school construction and technology grants, $10.3 billion in COBRA insurance and $8.6 billion in new Medicaid coverage for the unemployed.
The Senate passed its $830 billion stimulus bill Tuesday but it wouldnt have passed at all without the support of three moderate Republicans and a conservative Democrat who helped the Democratic majority obtain the 60 votes necessary to stop a filibuster.
Majority Leader Harry Reids solution has created its own set of problems for the speaker. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) all have publicly insisted that the measure emerge more or less unchanged...

In CA, she is a “Queen”. People there fall for anything.
It is interesting that many “Christians” say they are “pro-choice”. As Reagan once observed, though, all such persons have a conflict-of-interest because they are already born.f The American people can’t understand.
Close, she's elected by queens, of the welfare and gay variety...

It’s about as intellgent as your comment. :)
Anyone voting for this porker is NOT a conservative.
We used to praise sen Nelson (D-NE) for being the most ‘reasonable’ Democrat. All this shows is that even the best Democrat is worse than the worst RINOs in the Republican party.
Democrats are the party of depression, deficits, debt and destruction of the economy.
all three made statements to the effect that they WOULD vote NO if the conference committee (all Dems) made significant changes in amount or scope to the Senate bill.
Is this why the Dems are holding back on us seeing the comprehensive version?
Like most people who don't understand our nation you think that reducing the number of Republicans in the house and senate and electing nothing but Democrat presidents will somehow fix the situation.
There are some 17 states that tend to elect conservatives. There are some 17 states that tend to elect Liberals. That makes for about 34 conservative senators and 34 liberal senators. The other 16 states are about 35 percent Liberals, 35 percent Conservatives and some 30 percent moderates.
In these states,Ohio is a great example, the voters tend to elect either RINOS or DINOS. RINOS and DINOs are what Moderates vote for. When republicans elect a 20 of the 30 RINOS, they are in charge. They can afford to lose two or three RINOS and still prevail. When they have only 14 or 15 RINOS they are certain to lose 2 or 3 and fail.
The right wing reaction is to drive all the RINOS out of the party. That would give the Democrats 34 Liberals and 32 Dinos. They could lose 4 DINOS and never lose a vote in the Senate.
Moderates do not vote for conservatives. Any winning candidate in states like Ohio must get a majority of moderate votes to win. There are not enough conservative votes to elect a conservative. That is how we get TAFTS, VOINOVICH, And DEWINES as Republican office holders in Ohio.
Many right wingers must have flunked math. They seem to think that 34 percent of the voters can cast 50 plus percent of the votes.
Liberals figured it out decades ago.. THEY RUN MODERATE AND GOVERN LIBERAL.
does that fit your situation and/or do you have an INABILITY to express yourself cleverly???

That is one of the most ridiculous statements I've read in a while, not to mention quite pathetic... you are obviously part of the problem, so just step out of the way and the rest of us will do the RINO hunting and clean up the mess that you and the rest of the GOP Loyalists haven't been able to do yourselves, I just hope its not to late for our Republics survival!
the answer to that problem is EDUCATION.
further, we cannot save the FREEDOM that Americans have enjoyed for most of the last two plus centuries by becoming like the LEFTISTS/lunatic extremists/weirdos/fascists that are running the DIMocRAT party.

Oh, I'm all over this one at the moment... but looking for the next target...
“I have two generic messages - one for (R)s and one for (D)s. It still takes a long time to fax them. I have it from reliable sources that emails are not read at all, but faxes are stacked up and given to senior staffers to sort through so they can pass information to their celebrity to help them make a spineless decision that won’t jeopardize their incumbency.”
I don’t have a fax. Are the phone calls considered at all, as far as you know?
I don’t see what all the angst is about. The Dims only need a simple majority vote in the Senate now (they do not have to worry about a filibuster), and they do not need the three RINOs or Nelson. The only thing they want is cover (i.e., haing some Republican names on the bill) so when the damn thing collapses they can point to the Three RINOs and scream: “The Repoublicans signed on to it, too!”
I think there may be hope to at least delay the vote with the medical piece of this bill. Dr. Coburn said as much and I think even Democrats would have to think twice if they thought their doctors would be guided by a bunch of bureaucrats.
The trick is to get the word out in time.
“The trick is to get the word out in time.”
So very true. But we know the MSM won’t do it. But, then again, there are many ways to get the word out, and we all have to do what we can do bring that off.
