A comparison of the $827 billion economic recovery plan drafted by Senate Democrats and moderate Republicans with a $820 billion version passed by the House. Additional debt costs would add about $350 billion or more over 10 years. Many provisions expire in two years.

Spending

AID TO POOR AND UNEMPLOYED:

_Senate - $47 billion to provide extended unemployment benefits through Dec. 31, increased by $25 a week, and provide job training; $16.5 billion to increase food stamp benefits by 12 percent through fiscal 2011 and issue a one-time bonus payment; $3 billion in temporary welfare payments.

_House - Comparable extension of unemployment insurance; $20 billion to increase food stamp benefits by 14 percent; $2.5 billion in temporary welfare payments; $1 billion for home heating subsidies and $1 billion for community action agencies.

DIRECT CASH PAYMENTS:

_Senate - $17 billion to give one-time $300 payments to Social Security recipients, poor people on Supplemental Security Income, and veterans receiving disability and pensions.

_House - $4 billion to provide a one-time additional Supplemental Security Income payment to poor elderly and disabled people of $450 for individuals and $630 for married couples.

INFRASTRUCTURE:

_Senate - $46 billion for transportation projects, including $27 billion for highway and bridge construction and repair and $11.5 billion for mass transit and rail projects; $4.6 billion for the Army Corps of Engineers; $5 billion for public housing improvements; $6.4 billion for clean and drinking water projects.

_House - $47 billion for transportation projects, including $27 billion for highway and bridge construction and repair and $12 billion for mass transit, including $7.5 billion to buy transit equipment such as buses; $31 billion to build and repair federal buildings and other public infrastructures; $12.4 billion in rail and mass transit projects.

"Stimulus" my ass.

I am so sick of our elected officials, and the imbecile voters who put them there.

I have come to believe that there is no such thing as “moderate” Republican elected officials, only weak ones.

Bad news for Obama—top economist stated that 820 Billion isn’t enough to float the boat. This would be a great time to down size the government! Get rid of the failed programs and agendas that are geared towards political favors. Less is best if it means sacrificing the future. I’m all for getting the economy going but dead set against this wild spending spree. With the way things are sounding; tax dollars may be needed in our life time to fund human existence in America!

Like it or not, there will be a new Party. It can be a party like the following, if there are disruptions against its platform. Or can be a semi-secret and very informal society, the second choice being potentially and eventually more decisive. I get along quite well with my more knowledgeable and resourceful neighbors—much better than with those who continue government-business ties. And some of the neighbors are current or former “officials.” There are also other groups like ours.

Correction:

It can be a party like the following, if there are no disruptions against its platform. ...or else.

Best to find out who the so-called moderates are first before doing anything rash. If I was a senate Republican, I would negotiate over anything in earnest with the Dem leadership. Trusting Democrats is a stupid thing to do. But if they can stop this bill from going through by any means necessary, it would be an act of patriotism.

Sigh. Replace “would” with “wouldn’t”. My point is that hopefully the Republican senators are remebering again how to act like the opposition, assuming they ever knew how. IIRC, Bob Dole lost an election for us but got some of the credit for killing Hillarycare.
