NEW YORK Never mind the 40-foot snake that menaced Jennifer Lopez in the 1997 movie "Anaconda." Not even Hollywood could match a new discovery from the ancient world.
Fossils from northeastern Colombia reveal the biggest snake ever discovered: a behemoth that stretched 42 to 45 feet long, reaching more than 2,500 pounds.
"This thing weighs more than a bison and is longer than a city bus," enthused snake expert Jack Conrad of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, who was familiar with the find.
"It could easily eat something the size of a cow. A human would just be toast immediately."
"If it tried to enter my office to eat me, it would have a hard time squeezing through the door," reckoned paleontologist Jason Head of the University of Toronto Missisauga.
Actually, the beast probably munched on ancient relatives of crocodiles in its rainforest home some 58 million to 60 million years ago, he said.

DId anyone else notice how the article mentioned that the earth was once significantly WARMER than it is now?
HOW COULD THAT BE?
Did they have cars spewing greenhouse gases?
>> HOW COULD THAT BE?
Dinosaur farts.
Snake farts?
snakes breathe through their skin. not an easy process. the atmosphere either had more oxygen or more pressure to support a snake this big.
just like the GIANT insects they find. the earth was VERY different 5000 years ago, before the huge flood event which dramatically changed the earth
I guess we can add giant mutant snakes to Al Gore’s litany of horrors.
Big-a55 5nake Ping.
Yup - what you said!

Hate to light a match behind one of those.
Wow !!!!
If this snake was crawling on this earth 5,000 years ago then Noah would have been required to house it upon the ark... Something else long long before Noah’s flood wiped out this snake.
“58 million to 60 million years ago”
Yeah, just like when they use radioactive dating and prove that a penguin that died last week is millions of years old.
Take a lab a fragment of modern reptile bone that you left buried for a year or so. Tell them that it’s dinosaur bone from a well known dinosaur place, and you’d like to know exactly how old it is. they will happily charge you a few hundred bucks & tell you it’s 65-68 million years old.
yeah, why don’t people realize that noah took BABIES onto the ark. Noah was a smart dude. He’s going to think of stuff like that
Think Rosie O’Donald as bait.
Noah was only require to house two of every KIND dude. 2 snakes. Not 2 of what people randomly define as “species”.
smoking, eh?
More likely, “knights” in need of “dragon slayer” cred.
IF Noah took BABIES or even eggs onto the ark we would be finding live snakes not just their fossilized remains.
It wasn’t Noah that picked the animals that went on the ark...
The “Guy” that did so IS one smart Dude...
Hmmm.. is it my mistake, or do we sometimes find live snakes today...?
