Steele: GOP Should Reach Out To Gay, Pro-Choice Voters
Video Cafe (via Fox News) ^ | Feburary 1, 2009 | David Sunday

Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.

WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.

STEELE: Yes.

(watch video)

WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?

STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

"We want you to be a part of this, we want you to work with us, and for those of you who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over."- Michael Steele, accepting his role as the RNC chair.

He's the savior of the party!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

"Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice."

Or said in another way, "the GOP should surrender their core values and become just like the Democrat party". Apparerently Steele feels that if you can't beat 'em, then join 'em. And this man is the head of the GOP Party? I'm saying goodby to the GOP, it has truly become spineless. From now on my vote goes to the best qualified for the job, who also holds the most conservative principles in his heart. The Repbuplican Party has walked away from conservatives and Christians, let them walk, and keep walking until they fall into the valley of political irrelivence.

Were the strongest voting bloc. I am withdrawing my registration as a Republican. I don’t care what they do now. Let them implode.

I'm a re-constructed Southern democrat
who started voting GOP with Reagan.

I left the Republican Party when
they nominated Mcshame.

I voted for Palin.

If this the direction of the GOP now,
it is toast !

Steele is not much of a follower of the Christ.

I wish they would all stop “reaching out”, aka pandering.

Just be very clear on what you stand for, what you’re against, don’t waiver, and let the votes fall where they may.

Panderers get no respect....especially not from the panderee.

I think this is a good idea.

Reaching out to these groups does not entail giving up your principles. Remember that Steele is the RNC Chairman; he doesn’t shape or determine the party platform. His job is to raise funds, and get people elected. So, he can say this without caving in on any of the major issues that keep the conservative-Republican coalition together. If you had a potential voter who was pro-choice, but agreed with all the other points of the party platform, would you spurn his vote? That’s not realistic. That’s a recipe for ideological strait-jacketing and fossilization.

Not everyone in the Republican Party is the same, nor does everyone support every single point of the party platform. If we limited ourselves to those individuals, we’d have been in the wilderness long ago.

The only way to maintain a conservative site is to start banning Michael Steele supporters.

Great!! Let's have another Rudy purge; it's been too long!

No Michael Steele, the GOP needs to support candidates at the local level. That should be your focus. Harry Waxman ran UNOPPOSED. Seriously? There isn’t one republican in Beverly Hills?

I live in a “traditionally democrat” district. I did not know the name of the republican candidate until I looked it up at our Secretary of State’s website on HALLOWEEN. How in the heck am I supposed to talk about the republican candidate if I don’t even know their name?

The RNC managed to ask me for money SIX TIMES between August and November (so they know I am there)and NOT ONCE did any of these pieces of mail include the name of ANY republicans running for office except McCain and Palin.

Well, so much for flying bold distinct colors. That didn't last too long, did it? Mr. Steele, if I may make a suggestion: you're wasting your time. The GOP can't compete with the DNC's "free lunch and health care" offerings, and shouldn't. The wheels are going to come off that carnival ride soon enough. Reconstitute the GOP so that those groups reach out to you, and not the other way around.

If you listen to steele (and I have a lot lately) you would know that he means the pubbies must change and adapt to the new liberal America... the one the DC beltway insiders think exist. steele is just another out of touch dc rino. The only difference between steele and lindsey graham is skin color.
