When Barack Hussein Obama places his hand on the Bible today to take the oath of office as 44th president of the United States, Barbara Nelson of Kenmore will undoubtedly think back to the day he was born. It was Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu.
I may be the only person left who specifically remembers his birth. His parents are gone, his grandmother is gone, the obstetrician who delivered him is gone, said Nelson, referring to Dr. Rodney T. West, who died in February at the age of 98. Heres the story: Nelson was having dinner at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Waikiki Beach with Dr. West, the father of her college friend, Jo-Anne. Making conversation, Nelson turned to Dr. West and said: So, tell me something interesting that happened this week, she recalls.
His response: Well, today, Stanley had a baby. Now thats something to write home about.
The new mother was Stanley (later referred to by her middle name of Ann) Dunham, and the baby was Barack Hussein Obama.
I penned the name on a napkin, and I did write home about it, said Nelson, knowing that her father, Stanley A. Czurles, director of the Art Education Department at Buffalo State College, would be interested in the Stanley connection.
She also remembers Dr. West mentioning that the babys father was the first black student at the University of Hawaii and how taken he was by the babys name.
I remember Dr. West saying Barack Hussein Obama, now thats a musical name, said Nelson, who grew up in Kenmore and went to Hawaii in 1959 to be in Jo-Annes wedding party. When Nelson was offered a job as a newspaper reporter and photographer......

You do know, don’t you, that hospitals don’t just give out the names of patients to anyone who calls, right? That such a thing is illegal?
As far as the retirement age thing, it might be a mistake in that first article, since it would mean that the doctor retired at age 46. Possible, but not especially likely.
It has been widely reported that the only time Obama saw his father was the visit in the airport terminal. Has anyone here read his books? Certainly he would have mentioned if his father came to lecture at his own school.
Says he retired from active practice, then he went on to become an administrator of some sort. Not retired altogether. At least that’s what it looks like.
There is a photo of 0bama Sr with 0bama’s mama and 0bama Jr and a Christmas tree - about that age. CE will know.
Obama Sr when he came to visit in 1971-72 stayed in an apartment in the same building the Dunhams lived in. If I remember correctly it was a sublet while the owners were away and the apartment was on a lower floor than the apartment the Dunhams lived in. There was a story released before the election of the presentation Obama Sr gave to Jr’s 5th grade class. The teacher, Mabel Hefty, had just returned from a sabbatical spent in Kenya, and invited Obama Sr to give the presentation. Other classmates told the story of the day when the presentation was given, after which they looked at Jr with new eyes if you will. Jr himself, had circulated the rumor around the school that he was the son of a prince in the Luo tribe. The picture little jeremiah is referring to is the Christmas when Obama Sr was there.
I only read as far into the book as I had to to confirm that the first home the Dunhams lived in was the one at 2277 Kamehameha Ave. That detail appeared on pg 39, and previous to it Jr mentioned how his father was using a cane which is apparent in the photo when one glimpses how Obama Sr is sitting and how his leg appears in the photo.
I do know patients information is not available but to say, 47 years ago Obama was born here would be a wonderous thing for a hospital. That is not giving out patient information to say Obama was in fact born here so Obama has some credibility. When you phone a hospital you most certainly can ask to speak to a certain patient also. Has nothing to do with patient information.
Before identity theft you could look up all kinds of records on people. And if I wanted the people to believe in me the first thing I would do is open my records. Unless I had something to hide or my records were not there in the first place.
The one problem with the list of hospitals is the fact that Ann died at Straub on November 7,1995.
Can you prove that? I heard they had no records of her being there either but cannot prove it.

Heck yeah and give his home state a little tourism dollars by visitng the hospital he was born in. wink
so do you think this woman is telling the truth or lying...or is she just mis-remembering? (is that a word?) is she someone who could be bought or bribed?
At this link on the long thread post #6420 is an article which appeared in the Washington Post August 22,2008 written by David Maraniss the bottom part deals with when Ann took ill and returned to the U.S. from Indonesia. It details how she was at the Straub clinic when she died. Sorry you have to scroll but I had the article bookmarked as it had appeared in “The Honolulu Advertiser” but for some reason it was pulled while articles from 2007 and earlier remained available. I had to search for the article again and placed it at post 6420 to preserve it in case it disappeared again.

He also went through Punahou from the fifth grade onward known as Barry. It wasn’t until he was at Oxy College that he came home demanding he be called Barack.
funny how the media never crucified for that
NOT
I believe there is a verse in the koran which states that it is alright for a muslim to pretend not to be one to spread the word of islam
or something like that
Right. So what you're saying is that people called and walked into hospitals, offered to bribe people to commit a federal and a state crime, and got nothing. I guess you think the Ohio government clerk who leaked Joe the Plumber's records didn't do anything wrong, either.
That is not giving out patient information to say Obama was in fact born here...
Uh huh. And I'm sure that would be a valid defense in court when the employee is hauled in for violating the law, or when HR fires you. Yeah.
When you phone a hospital you most certainly can ask to speak to a certain patient also. Has nothing to do with patient information.
You're right. But if you call a hospital and ask if a certain patient is there, they're not going to tell you.
Unless I had something to hide or my records were not there in the first place.
That's you. A lot of other people would be less comfortable with anyone off the street being able to look up all of their medical records.
In this remark to Nelson, I do not see the doctor saying he delivered Obama. He may well be saying he read the announcement placed in the newspaper.
The new mother was Stanley (later referred to by her middle name of Ann) Dunham, and the baby was Barack Hussein Obama.
We all read the newspaper article that gave as much information.
I penned the name on a napkin, and I did write home about it, said Nelson, knowing that her father, Stanley A. Czurles, director of the Art Education Department at Buffalo State College, would be interested in the Stanley connection.
What STANLEY connection?
She also remembers Dr. West mentioning that the babys father was the first black student at the University of Hawaii and how taken he was by the babys name.
Now that is something to write home about, Hussein is a name we all are taken by.
Rather than think Nelson made this up I think the reporter took liberties.
I didn’t see any claim in the article that Dr. West delivered Obama. And it’s been widely report that Barack Obama Sr. was the first black student to attend the University of Hawaii.
You are quite correct, Obama Sr was known as a very high profile student as Freeper John Valentine has confirmed.
It’s even more unbelievable that a prominent doctor whether retired from delivering babies or not would remember a mother and baby he did not even deliver.
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!
Read excerpt:
“In December of l956, after delivering at least 5,OOO babies - and other things, he retired from the practice of medicine.”
RETIRED IN 1956! OBAMA WAS BORN IN 1961.
