Teacher from Kenmore recalls Obama was a focused student

When Barack Hussein Obama places his hand on the Bible today to take the oath of office as 44th president of the United States, Barbara Nelson of Kenmore will undoubtedly think back to the day he was born. It was Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu.

“I may be the only person left who specifically remembers his birth. His parents are gone, his grandmother is gone, the obstetrician who delivered him is gone,” said Nelson, referring to Dr. Rodney T. West, who died in February at the age of 98. Here’s the story: Nelson was having dinner at the Outrigger Canoe Club on Waikiki Beach with Dr. West, the father of her college friend, Jo-Anne. Making conversation, Nelson turned to Dr. West and said: “‘So, tell me something interesting that happened this week,’” she recalls.

His response: “Well, today, Stanley had a baby. Now that’s something to write home about.”

The new mother was Stanley (later referred to by her middle name of Ann) Dunham, and the baby was Barack Hussein Obama.

“I penned the name on a napkin, and I did write home about it,” said Nelson, knowing that her father, Stanley A. Czurles, director of the Art Education Department at Buffalo State College, would be interested in the “Stanley” connection.

She also remembers Dr. West mentioning that the baby’s father was the first black student at the University of Hawaii and how taken he was by the baby’s name.

“I remember Dr. West saying ‘Barack Hussein Obama, now that’s a musical name,’” said Nelson, who grew up in Kenmore and went to Hawaii in 1959 to be in Jo-Anne’s wedding party. When Nelson was offered a job as a newspaper reporter and photographer......

Now i wonder, who would you think would remember poor little baby Obama's day of birth, some stranger who had no idea of who Obama would become, absolutely no connection to him whatsoever, or his REAL grandmother?

She was in the fields tending her sheep on a cold summer's night in Hawaii, that was so deep.

That was when she noticed the Star over the Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu, and the three guys who were dressed all funny, like Magi, and they were bearing gifts. How could a simple shepherd ho forget something like that, I ask you?

If you are referring to his trip to Pakistan in 1981 and the possibiity that he went to hajj he didn’t. Hajj in 1981 ocurred in late October I checked it out!

2. Obama’s half-sister was born in Indonesia yet had a COLB in Hawaii.

Not sure that this is a fact. I tried to source this and the only thing a search came up with was a mention in the 1st Berg lawsuit. Where can this be verified?

I have also tried to verify that Maya has a Hawaiian Certification of Live Birth and the only thing I noticed is that she is listed as a U.S. citizen in the Dunham Soetoro divorce papers. Since Ann was teaching at the U.S. embassy in Jakarta before Maya was born I imagine that employees advised her of the proper procedures to register Maya’s birth at the embassy which would give her U.S. ctizenship. She could have also returned to HI in 1970 when Jr was there to write the entrance exams to attend Punahou and registered Maya’s birth at that time or she could have done so in 1971 but there is no evidence she did so. The rumor she has a Hawaiian C.O.L.B. began when Techdude posted that her C.O.L.B. was used as the template for the one posted for Jr. Again I have found no evidence of this.

Holy Geez! Sounds like you did a LOT of research - there's a question I never thought of, nor have seen asked - the Hajj, and what was Soetero doing during it.

LOL because I spend so much time researching Jr I end up running Zone Alarm Security Suite twice a week. My “dirt in woodpile” folder now has over 200 links in it and my mind is running through the stories which Kezia has told. They are contradictory to say the least! Thanks for offering I have removed the 19 spyware articles which were slowing my pitiful laptop down and tomorrow I will check for viruses. I just get impatient waiting for the scans to finish because I am left to try and twiddle my thumbs.
The hajj was something I thought of long ago when I learned of the trip to Pakistan and the fact that Indonesia had just begun a booming airline business transporting Muslims to Mecca. It took some time but I verified that hajj in 1981 ocurred in late October and Jr was at Columbia by then. I look at all possibilities when I research which is why I caught the difference in the “official story” with the 1963 date when the actual date was 1962. There are many instances where the “official story” doesn’t correlate with the actual events or facts.

BHO senior was neither a Physician or a PhD. He was supposedly going for a PhD when he went to Harvard, but only got a Master's in economics.

I doubt he was the first. One of the first *maybe*, but very unlikely he was the first. In fact, now I know he was not. That could have been Alice Bell

Who got her BS in pharmacy in 1914 from U.of Washington and MS in Chemistry a year later from UH, but then died in 1916.

She was certainly nicer looking than BHO Sr.

The fact is the birth announcement was in the Advertiser shortly after his birth would indicate that he was born in Honolulu. Moreover, Birth and Death announcements are not submitted by family member bur rather pulled from the hospital and public records.

And then there is the Indonesian school records that shows that his religion in Islam and he was born in Hawaii.

Such a carefully composed and beyond surprisingly intact memory. I had doubts about his citizenship before reading this, but now I just know all is right with the world...yeah, sure it is.

Nine days and twelve days are not shortly after birth IMO. The mere fact of a birth registration would have generated the birth announcement and at that time a registration of birth could be done on the say of a relative. The fact is the address listed in that birth announcement was NOT associated with the Dunhams or Obama Sr and yet you offer it as proof.
