Obama Calls for 'Grand Bargain' on Economy: 'Everybody's Going to Have to Give'
ABC News ^ | January 10, 2009 | George Stephanopoulos

Posted on 01/10/2009 9:10:12 PM PST by stevie_d_64

In my exclusive interview with Barack Obama airing tomorrow on This Week, the president-elect told me that fixing our economy over the long term will require sacrifice from every American and scaling back some of his campaign promises.

"Our challenge is going to be identifying what works and putting more money into that, eliminating things that don’t work, and making things that we have more efficient. But I’m not suggesting, George, I want to be realistic here, not everything that we talked about during the campaign are we going to be able to do on the pace we had hoped," Obama told me in his first interview since arriving back in Washington, DC as president-elect.

I asked the president-elect, "At the end of the day, are you really talking about over the course of your presidency some kind of grand bargain? That you have tax reform, healthcare reform, entitlement reform including Social Security and Medicare, where everybody in the country is going to have to sacrifice something, accept change for the greater good?"

"Yes," Obama said.

"And when will that get done?" I asked.

"Well, right now, I’m focused on a pretty heavy lift, which is making sure we get that reinvestment and recovery package in place. But what you described is exactly what we’re going to have to do. What we have to do is to take a look at our structural deficit, how are we paying for government? What are we getting for it? And how do we make the system more efficient?"

"And eventually sacrifice from everyone?" I asked.

"Everybody’s going to have to give. Everybody’s going to have to have some skin in the game," Obama said.

The jug-eared clodhopper is about to be sworn in as President and he doesn't know how government is paid for....

We already give.

Guess we should just slit our wrists and give blood.
Bout all we will have left soon.

Yeah, I make a modest income delivering auto parts. Lots of times I have to carry heavy items like brake rotors, drums, cases of fluids and so on. I'll be 43 in July and although I'm at the beginning of middle age, there are times I wish I was 20 or even 10 years younger. Still I work hard and make good money and please my bosses.

Everytime I get paid, I feel like I'm raped by "The Man." I don't mind paying taxes for the stuff government should do or even a welfare system where it is a hand up and/or you're out there cleaning up the streets and so on. I could use even half the money I pay in taxes to help take care of myself, Mom and my kitties and hopefully someday, a family. Many times I wish I had that extra money. And Hussein wants me to give more? Bullcrap on him. I come home tired and sore only to get my butt up the next day to do it all over again. I drive through bad snowstorms in the dark of night as well. I bust my butt only to give more to Hussein and his welfare ideas, for more people to sit at home on their butts watching their HDTV's and Oprah. I work hard for a living and come home and watch a 1982 Zenith, the same set I watched as a high school sophomore and President Reagan on.

No, I say to Hussein, I have given enough, so has my parents and many of us here. If I could push a button, I'd rerun the election again with different candidates, that's how horrid Hussein is to me.

"Our challenge is going to be identifying what works and putting more money into that..."

Typical idiot liberal...throw money at the problem and somehow it'll get better. Why don't you just rent some planes, fly over the states, and toss the money out. It pretty much amounts to the same thing.

If this moron had a clue, he'd realize that we've already identified what doesn't work.

Those expecting Obama to make their mortgage payments and put gasoline in their cars are definitely not in the mood for the message TO THEM of “pain and sacrifice.”

Obama pissed me off when he announced he was running for president.

What sacrifices....”skin”...... are he and his wife, Aunt Esther, going to give?

Maybe he should give up Air Force One and fly coach.
I’d love to see his bitchy wife deal with the TSA.

Everybody’s going to have to have some skin in the game

I saw the clip on my local news last night. He said it with such arrogance. We've already given "some skin"..... it's called the bailout.

Obama’s solution will be no rich people or middle class, just poor people dependent on government for food, housing, medical care, and defense.

sounds just a little bit like communism to me

skin in the game

term coined by renowned investor Warren Buffett referring to a situation in which high-ranking insiders use their own money to buy stock in the company they are running.

Investopedia Says: The idea behind creating this situation is to ensure that corporations are managed by like-minded individuals who share a stake in the company. Executives can talk all they want, but the best vote of confidence is putting one's own money on the line just like outside investors!

Learning a new lingo...

This phrase covers everything from home mortgage industry to health care. Just do a search for "skin in the game" and you'll be surprised at the meaning.

While most of us are not surprised by this...What will be funny will be the shock of the Obamanites that see a few of us really stick the knife in this and twist it...

We will be very hated people in this country for a very long time...I wonder if a few of us are prepared for that...Because the reverse scrutiny back to us will be bolstered by a mainstream media that will be working their side of the coin feverishly to discount and destroy the personal lives of anyone who questions the new administrations agenda..

Think of how long that list is already, and the knuckleheads are not even officially in charge yet...
