Ron Paul: Israel had US OK for war on Gaza (Ron Paul sides with Hamas)
Press TV ^ | 1/5/09

Posted on 01/05/2009 11:50:56 AM PST by LdSentinal

Outspoken Republican congressman Ron Paul says Israel had received a green light from the United States to launch an offensive in Gaza.

The Texas congressman said the Israeli attack on the impoverished Gaza Strip shapes a bleak future for the whole world as it means that, "the whole idea of preemptive or preventive war is spreading."

He went on to challenge the idea of Hamas threatening Israel's security and argued that "Palestinian missiles are so minor compared to the fire power of Israel, who has nuclear weapons."

The US Congressman's remarks come as Israel continues to rebuff international efforts to end the assault on Gaza, and Israeli troops and tanks -- protected by heavy air, sea and artillery fire - have sliced through the center of Gaza and surrounded the main city.

The tenth day of the assault brings the number of Palestinian casualties to 530 with over 2,600 others wounded. The UN says that about 25 percent of the casualties were civilian deaths.

Paul added that the escalation of war in Gaza would contribute to the fall of economy on the global stage and in the US, explaining that the US involvement in too many wars is "draining us emotionally and financially".

Congressman Paul said that even though Israel has carried out the invasion of Gaza, "the United States will be blamed for it."

"Israel depends on us; they depend on us economically, they depend on us for their military power and all their weapons and they really got a green light from our administration," he explained.

Paul's comment comes after US vice president Dick Cheney said Israel did not seek Washington's approval for launching an offensive against Gaza.

"They didn't seek clearance or approval from us, certainly," Cheney said Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli website Debkafile cited sources in Washington as saying that US President George W. Bush had given a green light to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for an all-out military operation in Gaza.

The GOP congressman also warned in July, that any Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities would take place with the explicit backing of the US government.

Paul told Press TV that, "No matter what they do, it is our money, it is our weapons, and they are not going to do it without us approving it."

It saddens me that Paul has come up with a philosophy that asserts that it is OK for Hamas to kill Jewish children with impunity

Where did he say that?

Had Ron Paul had somewhat sane foreign policy I think he would have gotten a lot of support..

My only question... will “We the People” finally take up arms and take back our nation? Or will we the sheeple continue to elect clowns like this and permit them to destroy, rob, cheat and trample on our rights!

I have not seen this carried by any other credible news source and yes, press TV is pure Iranian camel dung. A fact lost on many posters here.

Whenever I hear Ron Paul talk about the economy and big government, I think "boy this guy makes sense - why does everyone think he's a nut?"

And then he goes and does stuff like this and reminds me. Such a waste.

“I stopped listening to him after he said 9/11 was our fault. Now he’s bordering on Dennis Kukookish territory. “

His favorite politician, btw. Paul said he’d vote for Kucinch for president.

Preemptive it is not, but the Israeli response is vastly disproportionate...

That is same line that a spokeswoman used in a Foxnews interview this morning.

Ron Paul's own Campaign for Liberty PAC is covering it.

What the Palestinians do is no excuse for bombing densely populated areas by a civilized country founded on religious principles.

Response out of proportion will result in larger scale Hamas provocations, and greater Hamas popularity.

I wish the IDF every success in the ground invasion, which can be conducted in a discriminatory way.

“RP voted against sending money to the Palestian Authority.”

Paul voted against sending money to everyone...so what?

Condemn the news source if you wish, but you can’t hide from Paul’s actual record.

Ron Paul is being praised by the Muslims......guess that vote he gave for Ramadan declaring Islam a religion of peace worked for him......

“The resolution recognized “the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world,” rejected “hatred, bigotry and violence directed against Muslims, both in the United States and worldwide”

By James Zogby

“LAST weekend, most of the Democratic presidential candidates addressed remarks to a gathering of Arab American leaders assembled at their Quadrennial National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Michigan. An examination of how each of them dealt with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict proved to be quite revealing. But first, to set the context. Over 600 Arab Americans gathered for this year’s NLC, sponsored by the Arab American Institute. Among the bi-partisan group were Arab American elected officials and party leaders, and representatives of 41 organizations from 20 states. During the three-day meeting, they discussed key domestic and foreign policy issues, and took a long hard look at how best to prepare and position the community for the 2008 contest.

All of the presidential candidates were invited to speak or send representatives, and some did. On the Republican side, only Texas Congressman Ron Paul responded, delivering remarks that touched on many of the community’s concerns. Paul spoke critically of the Bush Administration’s adventure in Iraq and its failure to pursue an “even-handed” policy with regard to the Arab-Israeli conflict. His comments were well-received. The fact that none of the other Republicans responded was disappointing to some, but not surprising, since too many of them have rhetorically boxed themselves in with hostile positions on civil liberties, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the Mideast in general.

Response out of proportion will result in larger scale Hamas provocations, and greater Hamas popularity.

Oh please, if they are dead, they can't respond. If they have no tunnels to transport weapons, they have nothing to shoot with. If their leaders and instigators have bullets in their head, they cannot recruit new members. Israel has been playing the proportionate game and it has gotten them the larger scale provocations you claim disproportionate response will bring.

“preemptive?”

How is it “preemptive” to finally shoot back after being shot at for years.

I'd say, rather, “about damn time.”

But this issue is a good one for us to compile a list of who our enemies - domestic - are. This is where their true colors show...

Make a list and keep it safe. (we know where the obamination stands, even tho' he hasn't even weighed in as 'present' yet.
