Ron Paul: Israel had US OK for war on Gaza (Ron Paul sides with Hamas)
Press TV ^ | 1/5/09

Posted on 01/05/2009 11:50:56 AM PST by LdSentinal

Outspoken Republican congressman Ron Paul says Israel had received a green light from the United States to launch an offensive in Gaza.

The Texas congressman said the Israeli attack on the impoverished Gaza Strip shapes a bleak future for the whole world as it means that, "the whole idea of preemptive or preventive war is spreading."

He went on to challenge the idea of Hamas threatening Israel's security and argued that "Palestinian missiles are so minor compared to the fire power of Israel, who has nuclear weapons."

The US Congressman's remarks come as Israel continues to rebuff international efforts to end the assault on Gaza, and Israeli troops and tanks -- protected by heavy air, sea and artillery fire - have sliced through the center of Gaza and surrounded the main city.

The tenth day of the assault brings the number of Palestinian casualties to 530 with over 2,600 others wounded. The UN says that about 25 percent of the casualties were civilian deaths.

Paul added that the escalation of war in Gaza would contribute to the fall of economy on the global stage and in the US, explaining that the US involvement in too many wars is "draining us emotionally and financially".

Congressman Paul said that even though Israel has carried out the invasion of Gaza, "the United States will be blamed for it."

"Israel depends on us; they depend on us economically, they depend on us for their military power and all their weapons and they really got a green light from our administration," he explained.

Paul's comment comes after US vice president Dick Cheney said Israel did not seek Washington's approval for launching an offensive against Gaza.

"They didn't seek clearance or approval from us, certainly," Cheney said Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli website Debkafile cited sources in Washington as saying that US President George W. Bush had given a green light to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for an all-out military operation in Gaza.

The GOP congressman also warned in July, that any Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear facilities would take place with the explicit backing of the US government.

Paul told Press TV that, "No matter what they do, it is our money, it is our weapons, and they are not going to do it without us approving it."

I have no reason to doubt Cheney. After all the US requests of Israel to bend over and take it, I would expect that Israel simply wouldn't ask anymore, they know what they will hear.

It saddens me that Paul has come up with a philosophy that asserts that it is OK for Hamas to kill Jewish children with impunity, IF they use less powerful weapons than those in possession of the IDF.

Western civilization will die by suicide.

Even though I have agreed with some things that Ron Paul has advocated this is exactly why I could never support him. He is so off the beam on these issues. Preemptive war? This is a bizarre comment. Did anyone see the interview with the son of a Hamas leader on Fox? Clearly Ron Paul and those that think like him did not.

Well, Cheney said bluntly that the Israelis had not asked for approval. Paul said they "got the green light," which normal human beings would interpret as the same thing. One is telling the truth. The other is not.

Only one of the two can present evidence, and that is Mr. Paul, and that's what he needs to do if he wishes to be taken seriously.

As far as dismissing weeks of random rocket attacks as inconsequential he is perfectly free to live under them himself and see. But you can see here that he's bought the case presented by his supposed arch enemies, the globalists - Israel should tolerate these attacks because it's big and strong and the attackers only kill a few people. Shame on Mr. Paul for failing to adhere to his own principles.

The whole ME is a big rat whole. Biblical in nature. There will never be peace there. Not until end times.

I’m tired of sending money there. They will always hate us. No matter how money people we feed or take care off they will always hate US.

Israel needs to do what it has to do. Thats all. I didn’t say I supported RP on this. I only said no Politician is perfect.

I wonder how Ron Paul the lunatic would like it if his neighbors launched missles at his house day in, day out.

Ron Paul has always been pro palestinian/arab.....why do you think they gave him such support in the primary?

Ron Paul is being praised by the Muslims......guess that vote he gave for Ramadan declaring Islam a religion of peace worked for him......

“The resolution recognized “the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world,” rejected “hatred, bigotry and violence directed against Muslims, both in the United States and worldwide”

By James Zogby

“LAST weekend, most of the Democratic presidential candidates addressed remarks to a gathering of Arab American leaders assembled at their Quadrennial National Leadership Conference (NLC) in Michigan. An examination of how each of them dealt with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict proved to be quite revealing. But first, to set the context. Over 600 Arab Americans gathered for this year’s NLC, sponsored by the Arab American Institute. Among the bi-partisan group were Arab American elected officials and party leaders, and representatives of 41 organizations from 20 states. During the three-day meeting, they discussed key domestic and foreign policy issues, and took a long hard look at how best to prepare and position the community for the 2008 contest.

All of the presidential candidates were invited to speak or send representatives, and some did. On the Republican side, only Texas Congressman Ron Paul responded, delivering remarks that touched on many of the community’s concerns. Paul spoke critically of the Bush Administration’s adventure in Iraq and its failure to pursue an “even-handed” policy with regard to the Arab-Israeli conflict. His comments were well-received. The fact that none of the other Republicans responded was disappointing to some, but not surprising, since too many of them have rhetorically boxed themselves in with hostile positions on civil liberties, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the Mideast in general.

He would say it is Bush and NeoCon's fault, a plan drummed up by the CFR, and the only way out is for the US to apologize and buy gold from companies he owns stock in..

dr paul has lost it. He should have been warned that some his supporters just liked him because he was not Bush, they never looked at his actual policies. I am talking about the idiot liberals. dr paul does not need to cater to that crowd.

RP voted against sending money to the Palestian Authority.

The GOP and president Bush, Condi, sent millions to the PA. They built bombs with the money.

There is a lot to like about Paul when it comes to economic issues and government power/size of government issues, but...

His attitude when it comes to Israeli/Palistenian issues goes beyond a missunderstanding or even willing blindness; it is an out right bias against Israel.

I could support Paul, save for this one flaw. And it is a huge flaw in my book.

Ron Paul’s house is covered with a special protective aluminium foil shield that would prevent such attacks, including ones from space aliens and the Illuminati.

I remember when that came up and we searched for old bills and found one from several years ago where he voted against a statement of recognition for Hanukkah saying it is not the government's place to promote religion.. Guess if it is for an Islamic holiday it is simply a statement, but if for a Jewish holiday, it is a Constitutional crisis that must be avoided.
