Pelosi Erases Gingrich's Long-Standing Fairness Rules
Human Events ^ | 5 January 2009 | Connie Hair

Posted on 01/05/2009 7:54:23 AM PST by Clinton's a liar

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes -- which may be voted on today -- will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America.”

In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America.

This isn’t possible. We’re living in the era of change! Yes we can! Can’t you feel the hope? Tingling in your leg?

...no?

In other news, Senate Majority Leader (Dirty) Harry Ried announced a change to the Senate Rules which will all a simple majority vote to end a filibuster .....

Aka the Senate nuclear option. Say what you will about democrat idiots. They know how to wield power. And they WILL use that option that the GOP shied away from in 2004.

This is a public relations opportunity that House Republicans simply CANNOT let slip by. The House of Representatives is the PEOPLES representation in federal government, and the exposure of Pelosi’s draconian measures need to exposed to the people:

1. Fire up the House Republican email engines. Craft a one-page email explaining in layman’s terms how this is a shut-out of their constituent’s voice in the HoR. Keep it simple, use bullet list of the affect, and call Pelosi out specifically.

2. Eric Cantor and other House Republicans need to stage a press conference outside of Pelosi’s office. Demand to be seen by the Speaker and have press present while they wait to be heard. The press conference needs to outline this is the people’s House, the constituents in Republican districts will not have a voice, and present the problems with Pelosi’s measures. In other words, it’s time for the House Republicans to use a little Saul Alinsky tactis on the Democrat leadership.

3. John Boehner’s office needs to contact the three cable news networks and get Boehner on the air. This fight needs to be a duel between Boehner and Pelosi. If he shows leadership on this to his party’s constituents, it will further vilify Pelosi. Use words like “coup” and “shut-out.”

4. If they have any interest in winning the PR war on this, they need to start now. By doing this after the rules changes take affect, they’ll look like whiners. They need to look like fighters.

Also, the outlined talking points need to contrast against the fairness of the rules outlined in the Contract with America and past Republican efforts to include ALL constituents voices in the People’s House.

The first shot fired will be by the left. The left has a real sense of using violence as a tool.
This is the reason Obama wants his private army, since most of the US military will not fire or arrest regular Citizens.
It has been awhile since we had a civil War, so maybe it is time. The Left seems to be putting in place tools to restrict freedom of speech and freedom to protect ourselves.
Look for it, get ready and pray it dont happen.

“This is what ‘Rats do when they have power. They play hardball. They take no prisoners. They crush their opposition beneath their boot. They rule with an iron fist and brook no dissent.

Contrast that with the ‘Pub style: “reaching across the aisle”, “bipartisanship”, “cooperation”, “respecting the rights of the minority”, “playing fair”.”

Exactly. That’s why Republicans need to run an ex-Democrat for President next time. They know how to deal with them. Think....Reagan.

3) Elections in 2010 and 2012 bring the Republicans back into power.

Things keep going the way they look like and the election will be vote for Dems or go to the gulag.

And .. exactly what the democrats always do.

The dems whined and whined at the repubs when they took over congress because the repubs wouldn’t let the dems have any input .. but that was a lie .. and our friendly Newt changed the rules to placate the dems .. HORRIBLE MISTAKE!

You never give the dems an inch they will take 10 thousand miles.

It was amazing to see Pelosi on FOX sitting there next to Obama and saying they were going to get this new stimulus going - IN A BI-PARTISAN WAY - while she has that sickening grin on her face.

WHILE ALL THE TIME PELOSI IS MAKING PLANS TO CHANGE THE RULES TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT FOR THE REPUBS TO HAVE ANY SAY WHATSOEVER.

We already know what “bi-partisan” means to the dems: “Do it our way or else” .. then the repubs are bi-partisan.

Good to see you back. I said some time ago that it’s looking like 1998 all over again...only this time the Dems have both houses. If there’s an upside it’s that a lot of FReepers are going to find out why this place exists.

“If anything goes wrong, they have to accept ALL of the blame. They cannot deflect blame anywhere.”

We just had eight years of Alinsky politics, where everything that was bad was blamed on Bush or Republicans even when that assignment was ridiculous.

Now, when a critical Dem bill fails, it will be because Republicans were not being “bipartisan” or “fair”, and America will go right along with that ludicrous concept because they heard it on the News.

How much BS does she think the American People are going to put up with before we revolt?

Much of the American public thrives on BS, because they cannot face reality, they need it to live.

Excellent point... one that's been missed for about eight years! ;-)

They are in a position where everything now belongs to them. If anything goes wrong, they have to accept ALL of the blame. They cannot deflect blame anywhere. I predict a lot of infighting in their future, especially if Franken gets in the Senate. This leadership has proven itself to be lethargic at best and better at criticizing than leading.

I would agree with you if we had an unbiased "mainstream" media.

“This from the party that demanded and GOT Power Sharing when they were decimated in the House.”

It worked, too. Outcome-based politics is rough. “The end justifies the means”.

What constitutes a quorum - is it two thirds?

Our little gun store in Livermore, which is usually empty when we go in for ammo, etc., has been packed since Obigula took office. And people were buying handguns, not rifles. Our local Rod and Gun club had a line waiting to practice target shooting - any other time half the booths are empty.

I think America may just be catching on.....

Well, Reagan's out (I know you were citing him as an example, but I couldn't resist). Who did you have in mind? Zell Miller is the only one I think we might be able to sway, and he's getting up there. I guess Phil Gramm used to be a 'Rat, but I think he's pretty much radioactive after the last election.

They created these rules because the Rats were the minority,
but now that they have a majority, there is no use for them.
