Governor Palin Welcomes International Diplomats

January 2, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today is welcoming an international delegation of diplomats who are traveling to Alaska to celebrate Alaska Statehood Day on January 3, 2009. Representatives from several Asian and European countries accepted Governor Palin’s invitation to participate in weekend celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Alaska being admitted to the Union.

“We welcome these representatives with our best Alaska hospitality. We are pleased with their recognition of the importance of our 50th anniversary,” Governor Palin said. “It is a special honor to welcome Ambassador Kislyak and to showcase our state to this high-profile international group.”

Among the traveling dignitaries is Mr. Sergey Kislyak, newly appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States, who is making his first visit to Alaska.

“I am so pleased to be here this weekend,” Ambassador Kislyak said. “As discussed in my meeting with Governor Palin, it is encouraging to note the similarities between Alaska and the Russian Far East. Our existing commercial connections and the mutually beneficial nature of our professional partnerships can only help provide a measure of stability as, together, we face the global economic challenges that lie ahead.”

Ambassador Kislyak also met with representatives of the Aleut International Association, Institute of the North, Alaska Rule of Law Initiative, National Parks Service, ISER Alaska Chukotka Project, and Turnagain Elementary School Russian Immersion Program, all of whom have been involved in multi-year Russia-related projects.

In addition to Ambassador Kislyak, foreign dignitaries include Yuri Gerasin, Consul General of the Russian Federation; Julian Evans, British Consul General; John Mataira.. and Haijun Wang, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of China’s Heilongjiang Province. Mr. Wang is leading a four-person delegation from Heilongjiang Province, a sister province to Alaska,

Hmm, a Governor leads a meeting with a large number of foreign diplomats. Including a meeting with the Russian ambassador, who states "I am so pleased to be here this weekend,” Ambassador Kislyak said. “As discussed in my meeting with Governor Palin, it is encouraging to note the similarities between Alaska and the Russian Far East. I guess the Russian Ambassador can see Alaska from his house.

I wonder what similarities there are between Chicago and the Russian Far East, or Wilmington, Delaware? What commerical connections do they have with Russia? What mutually beneifical professional partnerships?

Was Obama ever leading delegations of foreign diplomats from Russia, the UK, China, ROK, Canada and others(3 of whom are UN P5 members with nukes) when he wasn't bothering to hold meeting on the Senate Foreign Relations committee?

Will Katie Couric be reporting on this? Interviewing the Russian Ambassador? Are they other governors meeting with diplomats from the P5 countries?

Hopefully she continues to do more of this and gains more credentials and experience(not that she didn't have more than Obama, already, but you can never have too much)

I note the book "Divided Twins" in front of her, which is all about the similarities between Alaska and Siberia. I wonder if all the MSM pundits who got thrills up their legs when they saw Obama reading The End of America by Fareed Zakharia(or some similar title) have ever heard of that book. I wonder if they've read it.

I'd certainly rather have seen her at my cabinet table for the next four years than Mr Big Ears staring back at me.

But it's good to see she's back in the saddle and getting on with things.

She is seeing representatives for the leaders. Barak will actually see the leaders. I don’t think he is worried.

I’m betting that the majority of them came just to meet Gov. Palin in person, they’re not all that interested in the 50th anniversary of Alaska becoming a state. If this meeting took place in June, few of these people would have gone.

obviously now he will be. just as she would have been if were in the WH. I meant did he ever do anything like this and have meetings when he was some lowly jr senator from IL.

The point was showing that as Gov she does have and will continue to have foreign affairs experience and develop relationships, certainly as much as any jr Senator.

And, also, to show that there are ties and partnerships between Alaska and Russia and its not just some idea she made up

I will never forgive the Mainstream Media, the Liberals, and especially Tina Fey for what they did to this woman. I noticed this is from the Governor’s website and I’m sure it will not be reported on the MSM. While the MSM is in a state of decline, and much less influential than it used to be, it still retains quite a bit of power. When all 3 major networks, the top newspapers(NYT, WaPo, LA Times), CNN, and a few others all decide to target someone and go after them 100% of time nonstop they can be effective. That said, in the end it was the economy, McCain's own lackluster performance with his "suspension" and weak debate performances, and Obama outspending him by 300M dollars that made the most difference. The MSM assault on Palin in the end amounted to very little votes being changed, I think. They went after Bush pretty hard in 2004 and tried to beat him, but they couldn't because the economy was in decent shape and people saw through them. Bush also had way more money and outspent Kerry by 40M, as opposed to being outspent by close to 300M. McCain/Palin got 60M votes and 46% even under the absolutely awful circumstances they faced and if the economy hadn't collapsed in mid-September/October, and say the Mumbai and Gaza things had happened during that timeframe instead, I think McCain would have won an extremely close eelction. He'd have won IN and NC. He'd have won FL and OH. And it would have come down to VA and needing one other state which I think would have been doable. But with the NYT losing 90% of its values over the past few years and 30 Rock's ratings in the toilet, Gov Palin may have the last laugh. She conducted herself with dignity and has nothing to apologize for. Circumstances just overwhelmed both her and McCain, although I have to be honest and say I'm not too upset McCain lost. Moreso for Palin. But if they had won, Palin would have almost never ended up President and would have stuck with the thankless task of his Vp and the odds of the GOP winning a 4th or even a 5th term if McCain ran again would be zero. So this way, she established herself and is in good position to run on her own and wit hher own agenda and not latched on to McCain. She's only 44, soon to be 45 and there's plenty of time. If Obama ends up as Carter, things will change mighty fast. Tina Fey, Katie Couric and all the rest did nothing to shake her spirit and if she can still smile like this after all they tried to do to her, she's ok. What a great photo.
