I’m betting that the majority of them came just to meet Gov. Palin in person, they’re not all that interested in the 50th anniversary of Alaska becoming a state. If this meeting took place in June, few of these people would have gone.

Yep, and they have to schlep up to Alaska in January to do so. Such are the tasks of diplomats.
