Newsweek Uses Year-end Edition to Take Potshots at Palin
NewsBusters ^ | December 26, 2008 | Brent Baker

Posted on 12/26/2008 12:42:46 PM PST by St. Louis Conservative

Newsweek sprinkled throughout its year-end double issue, with Barack Obama on the cover as the #1 member of “The New Global Elite,” a bunch of potshots at Sarah Palin -- and even derided teen daughter Bristol too. In a list of those who committed “low behavior” during 2008 (which did at least also highlight John Edwards), the magazine accused Sarah Palin of a “smear” against Barack Obama, on another page Newsweek described her as an “ill-informed, inarticulate shopaholic” (while on the same page hailing MSNBC's Rachel Maddow as a “brilliant” woman who “gives libs a happy new voice”) and deep in the December 29/January 5 edition the magazine ridiculed Bristol Palin: “For 30 years, the Moral Majority has promoted 'abstinence only.' Jamie Lynn Spears, Bristol Palin...how's that working out?” The specifics:

Page 21, a list of “The Biggest Losers” of 2008 “who set the high-water mark for low behavior in 2008,” featured Palin: “In a smear that sounds even worse in retrospect, Sarah Palin goes rogue and stirs up prejudice by accusing Barack Obama of 'palling around with terrorists.'”

Ten pages later, in a full-page year in review version of the “Conventional Wisdom Watch” (not yet online in the posted CW), the newsweekly hit her and McCain, but admired Maddow:

Sarah Palin: Ill-informed, inarticulate shopaholic has ego bigger than Alaska -- and she's still the darling of the GOP.

John McCain: Hard to forgive the nasty end-game, and Palin pick was iresponsible. But classy concession speech and Letterman gig.

Rachel Maddow: Brilliant, ebullient, lefty lesbian gives libs a happy new voice. Will MSNBC be Obama's Fox?

“Will”?

“But I will say this: no more votes for spineless ones from me. If you can’t stand up to the left, actively and powerfully, then don’t ask me for time, money or votes. I’m not playing that game anymore.”

I am with you. I’m sick of RINO wimps.

#1 member of “The New Global Elite,”

America is in deep trouble.

>What is this “News Week” you speak of?

It's like one of those
computer games with zombies
by the thousands but

you can't use weapons
to defend yourself or you
get a "game over."

“The only people who read Newsweek are awaiting a root canal or the results of a colonoscopy, and in either event, its purpose is to cloud the mind to imminent reality.”

Great line!

I'm pretty much disgusted with politics also - seems they will all sell us out. I think the problem Sarah has is she is unlikely to sell out the citizens of the USA and for that reason she has enemies on both sides of the aisle as well as their contributors.

Thanks to a mobilized media this honest, successful, and chirisamatic woman has been painted as a “blithering idiot”. Alinsky should be proud.

Articles like this are better ignored. They are intended to provoke.

One of my operative definitions of a liberal is someone who doesn’t have a clue, with no plan of their own for anything of substance, rebellious to anyone who might tell them “No!”. (No, you can’t kill unborn babies. No, you can’t spend money recklessly on social programs you can’t afford. No, it’s not OK to try to be friends with organizations whose sworn purpose is your society’s destruction.)

Gov. Palin is the authoritative figure on the horizon who might tell them “No!”. So she must be destroyed.

That’s why it’s best to ignore the media, and just persevere with a message of true hope, prosperity, and strength.

And even then the copies are three months old!

While what you say is true, the problem is these same people actually believe the shit that is printed there. We need to find some way to counter act this poison that the left has been and will continue to print about Sarah. Is there a comment section after the article? I looked and didn’t see one. Now I must shower.

Why trash Palin?......................................

For many reasons, but mostly because she demonstrates (through actions instead of words) love for her surroundings and all who occupy them.

All that liberals have rejected since childhood.

It really is not much more than that.
