The Caylee Anthony case took a dramatic turn yesterday when a child's skeletal remains were found approximately three-tenths of a mile from the home of Casey Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony. Since that time, the remains have been sent off for positive identification and a search warrant has been obtained for the Anthony family home.
Investigators conducting the search of the home have been seen removing enough items to fill up at least three vehicles. The search, which began yesterday evening, continued until early this morning.
A sheriff's deputy has now been posted in front of the house to guard what is now being described as a "crime scene" by the sheriff's office. A sheriff's office helicopter is also patrolling the area to ensure that no one attempts to corrupt the crime scene.
Items removed from the Anthony family home include: three vacuum cleaners, two pesticide tanks, a small pillow, seven large paper bags and four boxes of potential evidence.
Kevin BearyDuring an interview with CNN, Orange County sheriff Kevin Beary said that investigators "absolutely" found something of interest while searching the home.
In a separate interview with "The Today Show," Beary said that something found with the child skeletal remains prompted the search.
"We know that there's some clues that came out of the remains found yesterday and that's why we've kind of linked it back to the house. That's why we did everything proper, got a search warrant and secured the premises and searched into the wee hours this morning," Beary said.
Investigators are planning to continue the search later today. They also plan on conducting another search of the area where the child skeletal remains were found.
The remains have since been sent to the FBI crime lab in Quantico, Virginia, where experts are conducting expedited testing to identify them. According to Beary, a positive ID could take up to two weeks.
Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, has filed an emergency motion to ensure that defense experts can be present while the remains are tested. A hearing to rule on that motion has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today.
Crime SceneMeanwhile, a source inside the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's Office has said that the death penalty that was recently taken off the table would be reconsidered if the remains are proven to be Caylee. It was just one week ago that the state attorney's office announced they would not seek the death penalty against Anthony in the first-degree murder of Caylee.
Events that have transpired in the last 24 hours were set in motion yesterday morning, when an Orange County water meter reader discovered child skeletal remains inside a black plastic garbage bag near Chickasaw Trail and Suburban Drive in Orlando.
The worker immediately notified police and the area was cordoned off as a crime scene. Sources close to the investigation say that remnants of duct tape were found on both the skull and the trash bag.
I know, I meant her remains. My 2 year old died in 1992 of leukemia, I knew when he was declared brain dead, he was not here anymore, but it is a comfort to me that he was lovingly buried in a nice place and I can stop by once in a while. At least I know where his body is.
Oh, I know it’s probably little Caylee, but is this where Casey left her originally? I doubt it.
Thanks for the info.
Looks like little Casey is a REAL upstanding citizen </sarc>
I think so. It was submerged until recently, so I must have been placed there by someone thinking it would never surface.........Who knows who? Casey? Her Brother, Father, Mother?............
I can’t imagine going through something like that. I have a three year-old little girl, and I watch over her like a hawk.
My sympathies to you.
Well, something just sounds fishy to me. The meter guy just happens to be taking a leak at just the right place while Casey’s with her lawyer and the parents are outta town? Maybe Casey did just toss her daughter’s body within a quick walk of the Anthony’s house, but if an UNSUB’s DNA comes back on that duct tape, I’d be taking a real good look at the the mom, dad, and brother.
In case she woke up and started crying. Probly had the kid in the trunk while she was out banging some crack dude.
Well, I’m willing to give everyone the shadow of a doubt and so then she’s innocent till proven guilty.
But if that wing nut beach actually did it, sounds like they are gonna have tons of stuff that points straight at her worthless direction.
If there was ever a capital case, this is it. There are tens of thousands of families in this country that would have begged to have such a precious little girl in their family.
The Lord works in strange ways.......
Reading this and thinking about it, a thought just popped into my little noggin.....Casey may have thought that bog was ALWAYS flooded and maybe weighted the trash bag down with something to keep it submerged.
That "something" (landscaping rock? busted concrete?) could conceivably come from the parents' home, hence the big search.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
I hope the grandparents rot in jail if they helped their daughter cover up the crime. I would have dragged my daughter into the police station by her hair if she murdered such a precious and innocent little girl.
That's the best possible news out of this.
Otherwise, there is a second child homicide to investigate.
If you've followed this case at all, you'd know Casey is guilty of murder, accidental or not, and that she is a psychopath.
She is a dirtbag. She deserves the death penalty.
Yes, she’s guilty as the day is long, but the conspiracy part in the form of after the fact cover up is what I’m getting at. How much did the Bro-Mom-Dad team help? I wonder if fingerprints are on the duct tape and bag?...................
