This is what passes for intelligent thought on pressing issues these days?
The worst estimate I have heard is that it will increase unemployment by 2 million jobs. That assunmes that if the big three go under, none of the foreign companies building cars in the US will sell a single car nexr year. We lost one fourth of that amount last month, and the world didn't come to an end.
All I can say is it is not going to be pretty. I work in Detroit and used to live near Flint. Both are becoming ghost towns. It will be much worse before it gets a little better. I fear for my sons and their families. And Jenny is not helping things.
Someone should tell Barbara Bow-Wow Boxer that this is the Advent Season. The Christmas Season is from midnight on Christmas Day until the Feast of the Epiphany.
There's nothing in Article One, Section Eight of the US Constitution which authorizes Congress to 'lend' taxpayer money to private firms. That's what.

You have to factor in the ripple. The people who service the big 3. Suppliers and their suppliers, the people that cut hair, grocery stores service cars, ETC. The ripple will be devistating. Maybe you in another state will feel it maybe not. but in Michigan it will be a depression on top of a nation wide recession.
Nope all 5 were Cavaleres. LOL But they were all Chebby.Thanks.
Congress passes a Law to purchase 500,000 (or whatever number will get them profitable) GM vehicles at MSRP.
Problem solved.
No 'auto czar' needed.

20 years ago, I worked as a Congressional intern. One of my intern buddies hooked up with Boxer’s daughter Nicole. Let’s just say that he pursued Nicole for reasons other than intellectual challenge. And she was compliant with his wishes. He got what he wanted and she, obsessive in her pursuit of a salacious good time, got what she wanted.
He talked with Babs quite a bit, and told me that he thought Nicole was the dumbest person he’d ever met until he met Babs.
Legacy costs are a major factor in GM not making a profit on its cars. Toyota and GM sold the same amount of cars last year. Toyota made a profit GM did not. japan also subsudizes their auto plants. if GM had no retiree pensions and health care to pay for they would do a lot better.
Oh my. Thank you for the new vocabulary word. How sadly appropriate and timely!
No bailouts for anyone/any company/any state.
OK. Works for me.
Well, then the Little 3 would have to actually work and produce something to get the money. It’s much easier to go on current events TV programs and threaten us all with economic Armageddon.
Granted, but the corral gate isn't just open, it's been trampled.
My point is that the money is already there but for the wrong reason, it's alrady in the mix.
How about the provisions requiring the Big 3 not to challenge any state greenhouse gas emissions? Essentially, they are being bought off not to object to any regs the pwoers that be want to foist on the industry (and by extension, the rest of us).
This thing is so full of conflicts of interest, pork and pure statism it is sickening. It would be more honest if they just nationalized the entire industry.
And it is in fact failing.
Then it is too big to bail out with tax dollars.
I'm from Michigan. Short term letting the industry fail will hurt. But long term it will be a good thing because it may serve to help break the union stranglehold in our state by getting that entrenched system out of here. Let them fail.

Awesome story. Here they are, Dumb and Dumb's Daughter:
Ewww, I wouldn't do either of them on a bet.
there is no sarcasm here but if you listened to Gettlefinger it sounds like they will do just about anything to save the company too. They have no leverage now.
OK, then we repair the Gate and make it stronger.
The solution to poisoning isn't more poison. It's cleaning the poison out of the system.
This Forum is dedicated to casting the Federal Government back into the Constitutional prison the Founders designed for it, not finding more ways to let it grow.
For Gods sake man, grow a frigging spine and FIGHT.
