Did they ask for one. This recession was not caused by the Big 3. And congress just spent 700 Billion to Wall Street and they did not even have to show up. you are talking about 3 million jobs here and the ripple affect could cause a nation wide depression. That would affect us all.

How come tobacco farms tanked? They still sell the stuff. Can’t they grow anything else on that fine land?

Seriously. I’ll take my Christmas bailout now, run out and buy a cabin in the woods along with some provisions and supplies.

What’s the difference, the dollar is going to collapse anyway?!

I honestly think it would be better for Michigan, as well as the whole country, if the Big Three went into bankruptcy receivership. That way, they might be able to get out from under a freightload of impossible obligations and union rules, and start over again on a workable basis.

Tough on the UAW workers, sure. But they’ve been building up to this for the past 50 or 60 years. It won’t help to encourge more of the same.

Isn’t she actually commemorating Boxing Day where presents are given to the “less fortunate”?

At lease someone is willing to steal them.

Some things are worth stealing but not worth buying.

Michigan has been going down the road of socialism so long, they finally got to their destination. It's not the Utopia they expected.

Will the last fool leaving Michigan please turn off the lights?

Treating your employer like the enemy is not a particularly good long-term career enhancer.

Democrats hate big business. Democrats are in control of Michigan. You reap what you sow.

If any of the dyed-in-the-wool Michigan Democrats had done some reading about how socialism ultimately works out, they would have seen a picture of Michigan in late 2008.

It's looking more and more like the East Germany of the Soviet Union era.

If your employer doesn't make a profit and goes out of business, you lose your job. It's funny how that works.

The employer can't guarantee jobs when nobody's buying the products he makes.

No, actually, I wouldn’t.

Unless you are looking at this as buying enough time to get out of the state, those companies are DEAD. As long as the union and the government are involved in running those companies, it’s over.

We can’t AFFORD to bail them out. It’s that simple. Real GDP - actual, measurable GDP since 2000 has declined about 13%. Real buying power has dropped by about 10% since 2000. If we don’t let these businesses fail, then we will ALL go down with them.

That simple.

It is my opinion that over the last few years they have been changing. I know a little late but they have. And they will have to change more to survive.

Two concerns:
1. The bankruptch thing and a nation wide depression.

2. Very few will buy a car from a company in bankruptcy. (Because it is a major purchase they would be worried about service and warentees) I sure as hell would

Inviting flames here:

I don't see what is wrong with the plan as I've heard it described...why not go with it?

The money comes from a bogus fund congress set up to urge 'green cars'. It's already been appropriated, for a cause that's not needed because all three have next generation cars set within the immediate future. (And, because I don't think we know what "the green car" is going to look like as yet)
The money is to be paid back anyway.
The companies (Ford) don't even have to take it if they don't believe it is needed.
The amount is small in comparison and intended only to get them over to stage two...
Reorganization, with or without Chapter 11, is required and a workable plan is needed in order to (a) be considered for any more help, or (b) have the loan called in ASAP.

The only thing I see as lacking is a mandate to restructure the union as well; restructure and blow out the huge wages and benefits that are choking industry throughout the western world. (It ain't just here folks).
Other industries have already hit their union contracts and / or moved operations to cheaper labor areas. Non-union employees are being ripped off freely.
'Bout time we put an end to the big time grifters.
(Then maybe take a look at government employee pay and benefits..?)

I just recently bought a used pickup. Every one I ran at carfax was made in Mexico. The auto dealers are making them in China and selling them to the peasants and making money. Cry us a river, why dont they

How come just the Big 3 are tanking? They still sell cars don't they.

I don't see Honda and Toyota and Nissan with their hands out ... they make a crap load of cars in the US and are still turning a profit ...
