People will now be able to carry concealed weapons in some national parks and wildlife refuges.

These are NATIONAL parks
...at which point a legal response will have even better chance of winning, having seen the “compelling government interest” claim emasculated. The defense will have a hard time claiming a “compelling government interest” when the selfsame government eliminated, just months before re-instatement, the restriction after trying it for 25 years.
If your state allows open carry you would be able to carry.
Bingo. 46 days til the executive pen starts flowing against us.
The final rule, which updates existing regulations, would allow an individual to carry a concealed weapon in national parks and wildlife refuges if, and only if, the individual is authorized to carry a concealed weapon under state law in the state in which the national park or refuge is located.
We'll see how long it takes the Obama administration to reverse this policy...
I remember that as I was living in VA at the time, and active in the VCDL.
This is GREAT news.
But, if I’m walking around the National Park and walk into the Visitor Center... is that not a Federal Building?
Thanks Joe, terrific news indeed. A very big win.
I can’t believe it...you mean now I can actually defend myself when I run across armed Mexican drug cartels growing dope in the forests next to me? Cool.
Phil VanCleave is THE MAN.
Another good reason to get non-resident permits and investigate LTCF reciprocity agreements.
Title 36, Chapter 1, Part 2.4(h) Notwithstanding any other provision in this Chapter, a person may possess, carry, and transport concealed, loaded, and operable firearms within a national park area in accordance with the laws of the state in which the national park area, or that portion thereof, is located, except as otherwise prohibited by applicable federal law.Title 50, Chapter 1, Part 27.42(e) Notwithstanding any other provision in this Chapter, persons may possess, carry, and transport concealed, loaded, and operable firearms within a national wildlife refuge in accordance with the laws of the state in which the wildlife refuge, or that portion thereof, is located, except as otherwise prohibited by applicable federal law.
Now, to make two key points abundantly clear:
- ONLY CONCEALED CARRY IS ALLOWED
- STATE RESTRICTIONS APPLY
For the thick among us, that means:
- Open carry is not allowed (as in you don't reveal the thing unless you have a very good compelling reason to)
- State law is not trumped in any way
Yes, insofar as a 9mm vs. an AK is better than a sharp stick.
Great! I’ve always hated being chased by a bear or cougar into a National Forest (where guns are legal) so I could defend myself ....
Quite frankly, with the incoming fascist, er, Obama Administration ready to chop off heads, I didn't think they would have the nerve to do this. At least somebody has some stones.
Well done!!
OK, I stand corrected.
Watching my wife almost walk into a bear kinda brought the whole issue into stark perspective...
I’m often amused at how difficult it is to find the actual text of a law/rule/bill amid all the chatter about it...
