FLINT, Michigan -- With 10 kids and no vehicle, Latrica Ryan is used to juggling.
Going to a movie or out for dinner is a like plotting a major tactical undertaking. Not that such outings happen that much.
"It would really be nice if I could take my kids where they needed to go, instead of having to find them a ride," Ryan said. "And when we do go somewhere, I have to pay four or five people (for gas) to get us all there.
"I have booster seats and car seats. It's a lot."
Ryan, is a 29-year-old single stay-at-home mother of five sons and five daughters, who range in age from 2 months to 13 years.

Newt Gingrich, and he was pilloried by the media. Thing is - my wife used to teach at a school that had parents like that mother. Even worse. There was one mother with 12 kids and every single one of them was special needs because she drank and did drugs during pregnancy. In suburban schools kids are rowdy on friday because they want to go home. In inner-city schools kids are rowdy on friday because they don't want to leave. Their home lives are horrible. The older kids in these families are often abusive towards their younger half-siblings.

I do hope there are letters to the editor about this...perhaps the idea of responsibility can sink in again, if not to people like Ms. Ryan, then perhaps to those who are unthinkingly paying her bills.

This wasn't a problem when the family of the woman/girl had to shoulder the burden and shame of the illegitimate baby. They kept better watch over their female offspring.
Also, fathers of boys made sure that they were better behaved and restrained, to avoid ending up on the business end of a shotgun in front of a minister.

This woman would be a whore, but frankly, whores have more dignity and class than this woman, as whores are at least vaguely aware of the idea that their sexuality has some value, even if they misperceive the currency by which it should be valued.
