Che Guevera Gets A Statute In Central Park (WHAT!?)
Say Anything ^ | 11/21/2008 | Rob

Posted on 11/22/2008 9:27:01 AM PST by Pyro7480

A memorial to a murderous socialist thug in the heart of the heart of capitalism:

The base of the sculpture is inscribed with a Che quote that my ignorance of Spanish prohibited me from deciphering. But I’m pretty sure it wasn’t an apology for committing acts of terror and helping to derail a country for nearly half a century.
I’ve never understood the left’s fascination with Che. I mean sure, he’s a socialist and that ostensibly means he’s a member of the people’s revolution or whatever euphemism the extremist proponents of government-run everything use for themselves. But the reality of Che doesn’t really match up to myth of Che carried in the hearts (and on the backpacks and t-shirts) of aging hippies and immature college students everywhere.

For instance, did you know that Che Guevera was a terrorist who plotted the murder of tens of thousands of innocents? Well, maybe that doesn’t matter so much given that Bill Ayers was given a pass for plotting the same sort of things. Bug Guevera was also known to rail against rock 'n roll, "long hairs" and homosexuals in his speeches. He was a racist who mocked black Cubans and segregated them in his revolutionary movement. And he was a book burner who personally hosted bonfires fed by the libraries of intellectuals.

Are those things really worth celebrating?

They should also have statues of the bullet riddled bodies of the victims of Che' and Fidel's revolution.

In 1964,'65 and '66 My buddies fished bullet riddled Cuban bodies out of Guantanamo Bay, Post #13, where the fenceline meets the bay. No lie.

Why not a statue of Heinrich Himmler while they are at it?

This will do nothing but increase property values on the Upper East and West Sides. They *do* love their revolutionaries up there where coops go for $1000+ a square foot.

That pic is from another city...NOT NYC. Doris C. Freedman Plaza should be in SE corner. Maybe you’ll be there before me.

Most lefties feel guilty about past U.S. actions in Latin America and view the U.S. as having unfair dominance over the rest of the world, especially Latin America. So they idealize Che and other Latin Americans who “fight” against this unfair U.S. dominance. This trumps everything else, even the execution of innocent political prisoners

You’re mistaken. That’s a public urinal. All patriots should use it every chance they get.

This comment was made by "Che" in November 1962 to a reporter for the "London Daily Worker"....

"If the missiles had remained we would have used them against the very heart of America including New York. We must never establish peaceful coexistence. In this struggle to the death between two systems we must gain the ultimate victory. We must walk the path of liberation even if it costs millions of atomic victims."

From the Wikipedia article on the statue:

Fremont is considered a quirky artistic community, and like other statues in the neighborhood (such as Waiting for the Interurban), the Lenin statue is often the victim of various artistic projects, endorsed or not. A glowing red star and sometimes Christmas lights have been added to the statue for Christmas since 2004. For the 2004 Solstice Parade, the statue was made to look like John Lennon. During Gay Pride Week, the statue is dressed in drag. Other appropriations of the statue have included painting it as a clown.

My favorite is the one of dressing it in drag! Those people in Seattle are quite nuts. To paraphrase the closing line from the movie "Chinatown": Forget it folks, it's Seattle.

I think a good one would be Pinochet with the caption: “Hey Stalin, I got your omelet right here!”

Here's my favorite all-time Lenin statue. The bird dirt is a nice touch, don't you think?

Why are you surprised with the fascination with Che. Many people have a fascination with Hitler and some are fascinated with the devil.
