Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader By Alexander Bolton Posted: 11/16/08 01:05 PM [ET]
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.
Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.
But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the partys leader, as some have predicted.
I think that she is going to be a significant player, said Gingrich during an interview on CBSs Face the Nation. But shes going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. Shes not going to be the de facto leader.
Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.

Newt said:
Shes not going to be the de facto [actual] leader.Newt is trying to become relevant again.
Now by picking on a girl.
He had his chance to push conservative ideals and blew it
As usual, the editors get it wrong and come up with a headline that mis-characterizes what Mr. Newt actually said. Mr. Newt said: “Shes not going to be the de facto leader. Of course she isn’t the de facto leader of the party. She has to earn that and she’s in a better position to do so than any of the MSM’s favorite RINOs.
Jindel looks good next time around...his VP?? Hmmmm
theres one thing that make me less enthused bout palin, that is, she support the bailout.
Actually that is not entirely accurate.
First the MSN and the liberals and the democrats picked him.
Then the Republicans picked him.
Agreed. She has recognition now and 4 yrs to do great things.
But last week Newt was on Sean Hannity radio show and when Sean asked Newt if he would consider running for president in 2012 Newt said he would see if there was a groundswell of support for him to run. So, of course, if he is considering running for president in 2012, he will not be supporting HIS CHIEF OPPONENT for that job!
I agree with you that the reaction to Newt’s comment is overdone.
Palin isn’t the “de facto” leader.
She is a potential leader. She hasn’t inherited anything as a result of her riveting run with McCain. She has to go forth and do, and earn it just like anyone else.
I want to look behind what Newt said, though, to what I think is partially motivating his statements. Sure, he’s right, but he has a vested, expressed interest here.
Hannity ask him last week if he were interested in being RNC Chairman, or perhaps in being a candidate for President in four years.
He said “no” to the first, and a very candid “yes” to the second.
Obama plans to take YOUR money and give it to the deadbeats who didn’t bother to finish school or look for a decent job. Those who refuse to get up early in the morning and go to work. He plans to give them YOUR money. That is his plan.
Yes, he did. Those ads with Pelosi did him in....
Bye now Newt.
Can the GOP get rid of retreads, like Newt?
Did anyone stand against the bailout besides the guy I voted for in 04? Louis Gohmert
We DO NOT need any more Republicans to telling us we need to preserve the status quo. It seems to me that Newt is working to preseve the country club RINO status quo.
No more, "It's my turn to run" Republicans! We've had Bob Dole. We've had John McCain. ENOUGH!
No More RINO's
We Want Sarah Palin!
I’m not sold on Palin yet. She seems pretty sophomoric at times and needs a sharper edge on the issues. She does have 3 years to make a second impression on me, though.
I would rather have that in a president than one I don't trust and who I disagree with politically.
McCain got the nomination by default, look who he was running against, all atrocious.
Show me somebody better or shut up Newt.
